"We really enjoyed the stay"

Fantastic views over the valley. Charming host. We really enjoyed our stay here. You should know that the property is off grid therefore some services are limited.

"I would visit Helen easily again next time I'm passing through :)"

10.0

I really enjoyed my stay - Helen was such a fantastic host. I really appreciated all her efforts in keeping the place off-grid, including the composting toilet (which btw did not smell at all)! The bed was extremely comfortable which is wonderful after a long day hiking. Helen was so easy to talk to. We had the wonderful pleasure of sitting down and chatting with Helen and the other guests. It felt like you were staying at a family/friends place - with all the comfort after a long day out. Also - beautiful view of the stars from this location.

When booking the place, I didn't realize I was staying at someone's house. This is probably my fault from not reading carefully - however, I never once worried about my safety or the safety of my belongings here.

"Wonderful!"

Helen was a marvelous host, full of information about the area and full of good humor. We had a great time talking and dining with her. The views from the house and bedrooms were beautiful. The location by chance rewarded us with a stunning rainbow across the valley the next morning.

"Very good"

8.0

Helen is a fantastic host, friendly and willing to share her vast wealth of knowledge. This was our first experience of an off grid property, and it was interesting to learn how it works. The views are amazing, and the place is very quiet. Our room was clean and clutter free with a super comfortable bed. You are sharing someone's precious home, so read the information carefully! The eco toilet may not be for everyone or mastering the hot water system, while the entrance through her busy workplace garage reminded us of home. Sharing an evening meal with Helen and her guests was lovely, exchanging stories of our travels and life in general.

"Amazing hospitality in a beautiful mountain setting"

10.0

For travellers who are adventurous, social, and interested in a home stay with a kind, energetic and knowledgeable host, Eco Lodge is the place for you. While rustic, Eco Lodge is like a luxury mountain hut that you can drive to, with a beautiful view, private rooms, comfy beds, clean sheets and towels, hot showers, running water, and a fabulous host/chef, who provides delicious, freshly cooked meals (breakfast and dinner). While completely off the grid, solar power provides energy for lights, and charging devices. Wifi is also provided. Great hiking is at your doorstep, and quiet, peaceful sleeps await you after “family style” dinners. The lodge is all about shared spaces, meeting new people from around the world, and experiencing home away from home!

While we are not typically fans of shared bathrooms, the Eco Lodge experience, and Helen’s hospitality made up for it. You are only sharing the bathroom one other room, and the owner. We will always remember and cherish our time spent here, a highlight of our New Zealand travels. Thank you Helen!

This accommodation is a perfect blend of comfort, charm, and convenience, offering a fantastic base to explore the national park. Its prime location, just moments from the trail entrances, makes it ideal for adventurers. Helen, with her deep knowledge of the area and all of New Zealand, is an incredible host. I highly recommend her home-cooked meals, which are shared in the company of Helen and fellow travelers—such a great opportunity for meaningful conversations after a day of exploration. The star-gazing from the large windows is the perfect way to unwind and reflect on the day. Additionally, Helen's commitment to low-impact living makes this place even more special, perfectly in tune with the breathtaking natural surroundings. Highly recommended!
