Alex Home Stay

The place was wonderful!! One of the best experiences I ever had! The hosts were super welcoming; once we arrived they offered us tea and were eager to get to know us. They offered us lots of advice on how to navigate at the city and helped us a lot with finding a taxi and solutions to any problem we encountered. Especially, Alex stayed with us for over an hour in our effort to find an intercity transport and contacted the drivers on our behalf (as many of them were trying to fool us). The breakfast was delicious and homemade by Wijerante who every day made us something different offering a variety of options including local dishes. Finally, both hosts have been very honest and reliable and have been very professional through our stay. Thank you again Alex and Wijerante for your exceptional hospitality!

The bugs and mosquitos are the only problem, but that's in general in this area, as the house is built into the nature. However, there is a mosquito net in the room which was very helpful!

Great stay with Alex and his wife! They are super friendly and helped us organize everything we needed! Lunch sandwiches for our hike were delicious and the breakfast as well! Rooms are clean and it is very nice if you want to stay close to the center (15min by bus or tuktuk) but want to avoid the hustle and bustle of Kandy downtown! Highly recommend to stay here!

It was all good.

You know that feeling when you stay somewhere so perfect that you feel a strong need to share it with other people to give good people business? So that's how it is: Yesterday I arrived in Kandy and checked in. It's a tiny hostel (only three double rooms in total) located a forty-minute walk from the city center and the Temple of the Tooth. The place is run by Alex and Malka a nice couple who actually know what a tired person needs after a long trip. The rooms are clean and have everything you need: air conditioning, hot shower, quality mattress, balcony with an amazing view and outside the rooms there is a kitchenette with a gas stove, refrigerator, microwave and toaster oven. In short - there is everything. But that's not the main reason for the recommendation; the main reason is Alex and Malka, who are simply perfect hosts who take care of everything you need and are available at any time for questions. The cost of the rooms varies according to the season, but relative to the price I paid, this is the best room I've received to date in the far East (and this is already my ninth trip). Alex is also a kind of local tour guide who takes trips in the area. Attached is his advertising flyer.

Alex collected us from Colombo Airport and drove us to their lovely home in his spacious and comfortable car where the lovely Malka made us feel so welcome. Their hospitality and kindness is absolutely amazing! The room was clean and all the reviews are spot on, it's a fantastic place to stay. We got supper from the nearby well stocked supermarket and the kitchenette is very well equipped. Alex organised a tuk tuk tour guide, Andrew, at the very last minute which was PERFECT. He is an expert driver and we couldn't have been more pleased. He asked all the right questions and took us to all the spots he knew we would enjoy. 10/10, and worth every rupee and more. Can't recommend the experience as a whole highly enough. Breakfast was fantastic and Alex went out of his way to get us train tickets and take us to the station. Alex, Malka and Andrew, a million thank you's for showing us incredible hospitality and kindness!

The view from the room is amazing and the room was much more than I expected. Very clean, nice atmosphere. Really great value, I appreciate they set low price for the room. Very generous. The owner is very kind, she gave me useful information such as public transportation info and so on. In the morning rush hour I couldn't get tuktuk via apps but they helped to find a private one for me.

We had a nice stay, the room was clean, the hosts super friendly, and the breakfast was tasty. If you have your own transportation, the location is close enough to the city center, just be aware that it's up quite a steep hill. The little balcony was a nice addition and gave a good view over the hills.

The room was kind of small and there was not enough space to put your belongings if you're 2 people. It would have been nice to have some more shelves or a bench, so we wouldn't have to leave half of our stuff on the floor. Especially since there were quite a lot of ants and other bugs around.

A little far from the city center but it's easy by bus (20 minutes). Dogs barking during the night like in many places in Sri Lanka.
