Damsen Homestay Ella

Host friendly, helpful and generous with breakfast and regular tea offers any time of day, provided advice on local walks, harvested a jack fruit from his garden for us to eat prepared traditionally. Kids loved gorgeous dog. Lots of wildlife. Beautiful peaceful forest setting within 5 minutes to town. Good shower and plumbing.

My wife and I stayed at Damsen Homestay for two nights during our time in Ella. Let me start by saying, the family that runs this homestay is what makes it exceptional! Even though they don't speak English well, they are welcoming, friendly, and go above and beyond to make sure your stay is comfortable. They provided bottles of water and tea multiple times throughout the day when we were just lounging around. There is a little outdoor space and they had two lounge chairs, so we spent one day just lounging around watching all of the animals on the hills that the home overlooks. The location is a 3-5 minute walk from downtown Ella and, as mentioned in previous reviews, there is a shortcut to avoid walking all the way around the road. It was nice being close to the center, but far enough away that we did not hear any noise at night and got a peaceful night's sleep. The breakfast was delicious and they were willing to accommodate whatever time we preferred, which was nice. The room is pretty basic but the bed was comfortable and they provided a floor fan for us to have a nice breeze at night. With the temps in Ella dropping at night, we slept comfortably both nights and did not get hot. As long as you keep in mind what you're paying per night, it was fine for us. It's one of the lowest priced homestays in Ella, so we felt it was definitely a value for what we received! We took the 6:30 AM train to Kandy when we left and their son was more than happy to take us in his Tuk Tuk.

We only wished that we could have stayed one more night to hike Little Adams Peak. It's right around the corner from Damsen Homestay.

Amazing location with beautiful trees and flowers all around. the breakfast was great with a massive selection of local foods. and the hosts were so friendly and helpful.
