Lady Gordons Homestay

The rooms were big and spacious, also pretty clean and barely saw any bugs. Shower had hot water and was big. There’s a balcony connected to the bedroom which is nice to sit during sunset. There’s a big living room to make use of outside the rooms and also a small kitchen with a fridge/tea/coffee. There’s only 2 rooms in the complex (owners live next door). Hosts were very friendly. You can do laundry there for 1,000 washed and folded back to you. Only downside is the place is 15 min walk away from the centre and slightly uphill (but not terrible)

An extremely nice homestay. Very kind and helpful owners, an elderly couple. My room was big, with high ceilings, hot water available, comfortable bed. At walkable distance (20 mns) from the Temple of the Tooth (but it does require some climbing from the Kandy road). Laundry service available. Very good breakfast at an extra cost. The owners arrange tuk tuk rides. Common area with electric kettle and fridge. A peaceful oasis in the chaotic city of Kandy. I would definitely come back!

The couple who run this guesthouse are attentive and take great care and pride in serving their guests. Everything was clean and safe. They are very helpful with suggestions and recommendations. If you take the morning breakfast you may sit with other guests, which was a lovely opportunity to chat with other travellers and share stories. Overall a good budget choice, but best for couples or men, for the reasons listed below.

The location isn't ideal if you want to sleep past 6:30am. A local school had band practice most mornings. Very loud tuba, singing, announcements over loudspeakers - in addition to the sounds of morning meal prep from the kitchen just outside my room. It is a quiet place about a 10 minute walk from the main road. However, the road is not evenly lit. There were a few places with zero lighting, and I could hardly see in front of me. One night I passed a few sleeping dogs; they woke and chased after me, barking. Thankfully there was a guy in a tuktuk nearby and he stepped in and chased the dogs away. This wasn't late at night - it was about 7pm; but the sun sets about 6pm in the winter so it was very dark. For that reason, I wouldn't recommend to a solo female traveller. I tried using tuktuks a few times and it was a struggle for them to find the place, even using the PickMe app. The pin kept dropping at a nearby 5 star hotel and not at Lady Gordon's Homestay (even though it is clearly marked in Google maps) which was frustrating. The breakfast (hoppers and dahl and sambol) was delicious, but was served cold. For 1500 rupees you can get a better meal in one of the many restaurants nearby. One last thing - the wifi was very weak so I tethered to my phone's data plan the whole time, so if you need to be online, be sure you have lots of data with your SIM plan.

The property owner is a really nice person and well attentive. The place is well cleaned.

There is a school next to the stay and it plays morning prayers very loudly and it could wake you up.

The location is great, far from the noise of the city but accesible by foot if you want to reach the center are and the couple that run the home stay are fantastic, friendly and super helpful, if you like to talk about any topic, Nayana one of the owners, will be pleased to have that good time with you.

Room basic but ideal for a clean comfortable stay. Breakfast was a real pleasure and a great start to the day. The hosts were always on hand to give advice and organise transport. Highly recommend.

A lovely home stay with such kind hosts! Close to the main centre but out of the noise and chaos. The rooms were comfortable with everything that you need. Breakfast was yummy (the best coffee we have been served!), filtered water available, and the hosts were very helpful. We would stay again!
