A very attentive and accommodating host. Shawn was a great host and goes out of his way to make sure your stay is comfortable. Brews coffee every morning and is happy to have to interact and converse with his guests. The area is very quiet and the only noise that you hear at night is the sound of the frogs which is peaceful and relaxing.

Could think of nothing to speak of other than the water pressure was very low but not to a point where it negatively affects your stay. This should not even be a consideration when weighing your decision to book your stay.

Felt safe, not a lot of people like a hotel has, Coffee is made for you, full kitchen, comfortable bed, clean bathrooms, pool, how it actually feels like a vacation while here

Only thing that could have been better is if the pool was cleaned up a bit from all the leaves

Shawn was a great host. There was coffee every morning at 7am along with a croissant or pastry. The room was excellent (I had the private bath) with storage galore, a work desk, small refigerator and an incredibly comfortable king sized bed. Because my hours were unpredictable, the outside entrance was very useful. The grounds are very pretty and there is an outside pool which I didn't use because my activities used up the day from 730a to 8p or later. This will be my preferred lodging when I return to San Diego. I just hope it is available for my next unscheduled trip. A really wonderful find.

I really liked the location. The house was a nice set up.

The home is beautiful, but looks rundown, and is in serious need of attention outside. The wording on the description of the property is a tad misleading, using the word “villa” for a bedroom inside an actual home is not accurate. Especially, if it says private entrance, and it’s literally the front door with an access code. The grounds really need attention, the landscaping brings down the overall 1st impression. The back yard area by the pool has so much potential, if the grounds were cut and a couple plants were maintained. It was disappointing that the jacuzzi wasn’t heated, the patio furniture was dirty and covered in cobwebs. There were sitting areas that didn’t quite make sense, looked like they just were not interested in the esthetics of the home. There was a cute sitting area by a fire pit, but it had a bunch of the owners personal items blocking the usage of the area. A punching bag and a bike and an extra BBQ. An unused ladder sat on the patio, should have been stored out of sight. The interior of the house was cute, it needs to be dusted and cleaned. I would suggest also taking down the Christmas decals off the front windows. At 4:30 am the sprinklers in the front yard went off and hit the glass window of our room. It terrified my daughter as she thought someone was trying to get in. Glad we opted to close the window, otherwise we would have been sprayed with water. The “villa” we stayed in, the room itself was clean. Needed dusting and the walls wiped down since there were cobwebs. I noted after the fact-the contract you sign as you arrive- it says sheets/ pillows etc cleaned weekly. We had to wait and drive around before we arrived because the previous guests were still in our room. I sure hope the sheets were changed . To the owner I would suggest leaving Clorox cleanup wipes in the bathroom, especially since it’s a shared space .

You never felt a sense of real privacy. It was like staying in someone’s house but just not fully comfortable. But it’s a basic, large, clean room. Wifi never really worked very weak connection..

The man who owns this place is VERY nice, so I hate to leave a low rating. The property is clean, and there is a pool. The cost value is very good- low rate for the area.

I booked a "deluxe villa"- I got a bedroom in a single family home, where I shared a bathroom with someone else. This property is a slightly better than average hostel, and should be advertised as such. It should be made CLEAR you will share all amenities, and sleep in a very basic bedroom off a typical hallway with several strangers. Noise carries just as it does in any other single family home, and timing the bathroom share is annoying if you're not expecting it. The location is far back in a residential neighborhood, and most restaurants /shopping are a couple miles away (you'll need to drive).

The location is fantastic, it really doesn't get better than Rancho Santa Fe! We enjoyed dining al fresco. There were several outdoor seating areas to choose from and a lovely pool. The house is lovely and hostess gracious. We had the larger suite, 'family villa' which was plenty spacious with a lovely bathroom and private entrance. The grounds were great for my dog to run around on. He was very welcome there.

The rooms have no sound proofing at all. There wasn't a clear expectation set of what we could use and not as there were other people staying there also. The add sounds like you have the whole place to yourself but that isn't the case. You have your room and can use the main living, dining rooms and kitchen... along with other guests. There was no way to use either gas grill. The landscaping needs some work as it is overgrown and there are so many sticker weeds that got in my dogs paws and fur.
