Juna Mahal Boutique Home Stay

I had the absolute pleasure of staying at Juna Mahal Boutique Home stay in Jodhpur, and it was one of the most memorable stays I’ve had in India. The homestay is set in a 472-year-old heritage house, beautifully preserved and located right in the heart of the old city. The atmosphere is rich with history, yet the place is incredibly well-maintained, clean, and welcoming. The location is fantastic—it’s very close to the train station and the adjacent bus station, making it easy to reach for travelers. The airport is also nearby and can be reached by rickshaw in under 30 minutes. However, since the homestay is deep within the narrow lanes of the old town, cars cannot reach the doorstep, so you’ll need to take a rickshaw from the main road. Thankfully, rickshaws in Jodhpur are very reasonably priced and fair—unlike in some other cities, they don’t try to overcharge tourists. The family is happy to arrange transportation for you, making the journey smooth and hassle-free. From the moment I arrived, the family made me feel at home. Before my trip, Jimmy, the son of the family, personally contacted me on WhatsApp to confirm my arrival time, and when I got there, he was waiting for me, personally welcoming me and even carrying my bag from the rickshaw—a small but thoughtful gesture that made for a warm and memorable start to my stay. Earlier during my trip, I had injured my knee, and the staff were incredibly accommodating. A young man named Arjun was particularly helpful; he carried my heavy bag all the way to the top floor when I arrived and again carried it back down to the main road when I was leaving, even hailing a rickshaw for me to get to the airport. Traveling alone with an injury can be challenging, but their attentive care made it much easier. I stayed in a top-floor single room, and the view was absolutely breathtaking—you can see the entire city from there.

Excellent old time charm of a 500 to 600 year old building that has been renovated with modern amenities as a 8-room boutique hotel. Great views of Mehrangarh Fort from the terrace. Fairly decent restaurant on the terrace. Good choice of six preselected menus for hot breakfast. Very friendly staff and service. They will haul away all your luggage all the way to your room and back up and down the stairs.

As you may expect, it is a 500 to 600 year old building so it is located in a very cramped part of the town that is accessible only by autos. Cars cannot go. But fear not, the autos in Jodhpur are built and configured to take large suitcases at the back so no issues there. There is no elevator of course and the height of the stair steps is a bit too high, maybe 12 inch steps. So it is somewhat of an effort to go up the stairs to your room. But the staff will haul all your luggage so all you have to do is take yourself up the stairs.

The room was spacious, clean, with comfortable bed I had a great nights sleep and made tea with the kettle in the morning! The breakfast was delicious on the roofdeck with a lovely view of the city. Someone from the homestead helped with my luggage and to get me a taxi the next day.

It was a little hard to find from the main street, except for a small sign.

It’s 450 years old with all antiques kept inside in maintained condition. the property from inside was kept clean. Rooftop has a view to MEHRANGARH fort but then that’s it.

The access to the property is terrible as it is amidst the Jodhpur central city. Lanes are narrow and tacky. Kitchen is not good as we saw some lizards crawling around and the food is decent. Toiletries weren’t up to the mark as no paste was provided. There was no water bottles in the room. As Rajasthan speaks highly of their hospitality I believe such things shouldn’t be skipped at all.

Our problem was that we didn't get the room that we paid for. We had booked a junior suite with 28 square meters and bathroom inside the suite, sofa, TV and other extras. What we got was a tiny room of 9 square meters with bathroom outside of the room, no TV, Sofa etc. During the night it was cold and we didn't have enough warm blankets. There were also some youngsters making noise half of the night. The host was very friendly, though, and reduced the price.

Beautiful old house in the heart of Jodhpur. The room and bathroom were well equipped and clean. All day restaurant on the rooftop with beautiful views. Everyone was very friendly and helpful. Great spot to discover the city.
