Homestay Galpera is the best hidden homestay i have ever found. Ruth and their family welcomed me with the best hospitality, it felt like home. The room is comfy and clean, huge restroom. Many books, cool decorations. Also, perfect location between Sentani and town. Would like to come back anytime again in the future.

Had a wonderful stay here. The host is incredibly friendly and accommodating, and truly makes you feel at home. They also share great insights into the local Papuan communities, which made the experience even more meaningful.

No AC. Only cold shower, and the water pressure is the weakest I've seen. One thing that really let me down is the fact that I got locked out at night, and how the host handled the situation the next day. So I was exploring the city at night and it started raining really heavily, so I couldn't get back until 1 a.m. When I returned, the gate to the property was locked, which I had never been warned about. I called the host several times, but apparently her phone was turned off. Since I couldn't get in, I had to look for another hotel in town. It was very difficult and probably unsafe for me to be out searching for a hotel that late at night. The extra taxi rides and the hotel stay cost me well over 500k IDR in total. The next day, she did apologise once over WhatsApp after she saw my message explaining the situation, but that was it. In person, she didn't even apologise once and instead kept saying it was "miscommunication" and that "I should've messaged her". No, it was not "miscommunication", it was a lack of communication. I was never informed about the gate or any curfew beforehand. She gave me the key to the property, so I never even imagined I'd get locked out like that. It would never occur to me that I should message her when I'd be back because 1) she never told me to, and 2) I assumed I could let myself in with the keys provided. If she had simply left it at "sorry", then I probably would've let it slide, but I really disliked her attempts to shift the blame. One more thing to note: She did say I didn't have to pay for the laundry (30k IDR) the next day, but very quickly withdrew the offer after I said "It's okay" once. She showed no hesitation taking the money after that.

Im Juni waren wir zum ersten Mal in Jayapura um weiter nach Wamena zu reisen. Da es uns so gut im Homestay gefallen hat, wurde aus einem Zwischenstopp ein längerer Aufenthalt. Heidi und Rainer, die Eigentümer und Ruth, die Managerin haben uns sehr willkommen geheißen. Dank Ihnen, hatten wir wunderschöne, unvergessliche Tage in Jayapura und im Galpera Homestay. Von Anfang an haben wir uns wohl gefühlt und wie zu Hause. Ruth, die Managerin hat alles perfekt organisiert und ist immer erreichbar falls man Fragen hat. Die Unterkunft war immer sehr sauber und es besteht die Gelegenheit zu kochen. Im Homestay gibt es sogar ein Guidebook mit wichtigen Information die man über die Gegend, Kultur und anderen nahegelegenen Reisezielen wissen sollte. Wir kommen auf jeden Fall wieder! The porch was amazing. Just sitting here and having nice conversations with our hosts. They are both amazing people. And this is what I think a homestay should be. You get a much better feeling how it is to live here.
