This is one of the many old, a little tumbledown properties that survived the various eruptions and earthquakes of São Jorge... which, in this case, the owners turned around into a modern all-amenities manor in, they told me, 23 years of their own hands' work. And this is what you feel in every corner, in every nook and cranny. I had a room with shared bathroom, and both where very well furnished and fitted, very tasteful. For the first time in 20+ years of guesthouse experience, I was in a room with enough and even more than enough boards and space to put down all those little things, from water bottle to computer, from mobile phone to maps on paper and leaflets you bring when you go for a hiking vacation... and hiking is what São Jorge is for after all. The stay included using the fully fitted and furnished kitchen – tasteful – the family den – very tasteful – and the terrace that gave me an excellent view of mount Pico across the São Jorge Strait at every breakfast, every sundown. The location of the manor is just stunning; at 50 m from the cliffs, the waves washing ashore are your background vocals at every moment on the terrace. At the slightest question, I was given a wealth of to-the-point information, or shown around right away, by the hosts in their car. The whole stay just never felt as though I was a guest in a guesthouse, but rather someone visiting friends. Next time 'round, I won't even look any further than Quinta dos Dragoeiros. Nothing could have been better, actually. When taking me to the airport on my way out, the landlord asked me if I had any suggestions of what could make things better, and I honestly was at a loss and said so. Now I found one single, little thing. For coffee, the kitchen sports an automatic coffee maker using the one-pod a cup capsules. No problem for me, but strongly waste avoidance-minded people may feel this is a bit environmentally unfriendly; a standard coffee maker for filter-made coffee may be a better option in that perspective. But that, honestly, is still the only thing I can come up with.

Our hosts were amazing! What a beautiful property. Given that its a series of rooms, it works best for couples, friends or families with older/independent children. It was perfect for us and gave us a unique experience visiting the island.

El alojamiento tiene una ubicación ideal. La atención de Lina fue alucinante, según llegué me explicó los lugares que tenía que ver. Muy simpática y con una atención maravillosa.

Fiquei muito agradado com o espaço da casa, muito ampla e confortável, assim como do espaço exterior a partir do qual temos a oportunidade de contemplar vistas incríveis para Velas e a ilha do Pico. O facto de os hóspedes terem oportunidade de usufruir da piscina e dos sossego do local permite recuperar fisicamente das caminhadas. Quartos limpos e confortáveis. Por último destacar a hospitalidade e simpatia dos senhorios, bastante atenciosos e prestáveis durante a estadia. Ao Rui e Lina desejo toda a felicidade e certamente voltarei a ver-vos. From the moment Rui met us at the airport, to the final day of our wonderful stay at Rui and Lena’s beautiful, large, comfortable and secluded house, everything was as close to ideal as one could hope. The house is situated at the end of a large bluff, with spectacular and unobstructed views of the ocean and town of Velas. In fact, even the view from the kitchen is magnificent. The accommodations were excellent, everything seems designed and planned for the visitors’ comfort. And Rui and Lena treat you almost like family, making the visit even more pleasant. What’s more, if you need a car and driver, you can’t do better than Rui, who knows every site, every restaurant, and it seems like every person in Velas. We are very happy to highly recommend Rui and Lena’s house in Velas.

Beautiful property on the coast in Queimada surrounded by nature (great star gazing on a clear night) and with a direct view of Mount Pico and Faial. Absolute tranquility, first class installations and very kind and helpful hosts.

Although close to Velas, you absolutely need a car.

The view is amazing, the house itself also and the host is five stars.

Nous avions la chambre pour 3 avec une salle de bain privée au dernier étage de la maison qui est partagée avec les hôtes. La maison est très très grande avec beaucoup de terrasses différentes pour déjeuner ou diner. Une vue sur la mer magnifique ( depuis la salle de bain également) et une tranquillité du fait que la maison est au bout d'une route. La cuisine est très grande avec beaucoup d'ustensiles pour préparer tout ce que l'on souhaite. Lina et Rui les hôtes sont extrêmement gentils et attentionnés. Nous avons été très touchés par leur beau projet de vie à travers cette maison magnifique.

La chambre étant au Sud nous avons eu en particulier une nuit difficile car il a fait très chaud. L'installation d'une climatisation dans cette pièce serait un vrai plus.
