AUVery clean and comfortable

AUWas good value for money and simple to walk into town.
The sound between the upstairs and the unit had no buffering. At times it did feel like the door was open. The second night particularly the tv upstairs was in until about 2am which disturbed our sleep.
USThe host was friendly and the location was as expected.
The room and bathroom were quite dirty (marks on walls/mold). The room was extremely warm and I asked multiple times to turn the heating down, but still ended up having to sleep with the window open and no covers, despite it being below freezing outside. The bedsheets, pillows and mattress were low quality and uncomfortable.

USLocation was good
Room was super cold my father got cold badly The staff told us the heating is 60 years old and not working fine
USNeeds TV in room. Needs soap and shampoo in bathroom. Needs fresh towels and hand towels. One of the towels smelled awful.
NZAlthough highly priced, it was very competitive compared to others. Plenty of floor space including a lounge room. Shower worked well. Only 30 minutes walk to Capitol. Is a basement apartment but bedroom gets daylight. The host was agreeable.
Despite many reviewers giving the same advice, the host lets himself down by penny pinching. I’ve never been to a hotel before where there was only one roll of toilet paper. The linen on the bed and the towels were like the very oldest I have at home. Although things had been cleaned, there were many places that had not been dusted for a long time. Some small improvements would ensure better reviews from everyone in future.
USHost seemed very nice, responsive to messages and everything was as they said it would be with gaining entrance.
Roach spray in "kitchenette area" worn old linens, very old used-up pillows, and smelly towels. We arrived at night where there was zero light in basement doorway to retrieve the key or unlock doors. Location was not in walking distance to metro or food.
GBAfter I called the host, and having got no reply, then went to knock on the door, he realised that I had checked in, and came and did some cleaning so that it was possible for me to stay in the accommodation. He gave me directions to the Giant store at 7th and O street, which helped me to get away and also gave him some time to clean the fridge and microwave. Later on, during the stay, when he again came down to assist with the property, he offered to do my laundry on three occasions, rather than only one, because I explained that the air conditioning was causing me to have to use more clothes to occupy. During that discussion I was able to understand more about the context of the property let, that it was necessary to cover their mortgage on the house and for a few hours I felt a little safer. I do completely understand the host’s experience of England as unwelcoming / unfriendly towards foreigners.
I had messaged before leaving England about my check in and check out time so there was no excuse to not have the property properly cleaned and prepared. The attitude of the host was as if he was providing the accommodation for free and I had to explain that if a guest is paying a large amount of money in advance, they have expectations of, at least cleanliness and that the place is prepared for a guest. The fridge microwave and kettle were there as advertised but none were properly cleaned. The kitchenette area had lids of paper cups but no actual cups, which made it obvious that the supplies hadn’t been topped up after previous guest. I had to ask for cups. There were no plates. For a 6 night stay, only 4 coat hangers were given and I had to ask for more. There was an iron but the ironing board cover was dirty and so it wasn’t possible to use it. The bins had clean bags place in but the sloppiness around cleaning was clear because under the bag the previous occupants rubbish was visible, and old vape pipe appeared on bathroom floor behind toilet; duvet cover had signs of use so after I showed him the host took and replaced it. There was no plug for the bathtub and the host thought to expect a plug for the bath was unreasonable, other guests either only showered or used a face cloth as a bath plug. ( Later he told me that he ordered one online, and then for the last 2 nights of my stay he borrowed one, he said, from his mother, for me to use, since the order had not been delivered). The property did not feel entirely safe: (1) no natural air could enter, windows could not be opened. (2) if the blinds in bedroom are open then daylight enters however for privacy at night, I had to close those and it was impossible to open and close the blinds because they did not move freely and were too grubby/dusty to touch comfortably. (3) Air conditioning/ temperature was set by the host. It is the same setting for the entire house.
