West Point Backpackers Hostel

There are two main best things about the place: 1) Spectacular view to the mountains and 2) brilliant hosts.

It is a little far from the main city, but it is not a problem either to walk, or to find cheap transport to the center

A bit outside of town, but nice quiet area and you're quickly at the Mall. Rebecca is a lovely host, gave us many ideas on what to do/see and made us great breakfast. Definitely recommend!

The Host is very friendly. if you are going in winters you will get heaters in bed which is an addon that you must like. Overall its a nice place to stay. Many viewpoints and monasteries are nearby.

I stayed for two nights with my almost 5 year old daughter. From beginning to end it was a fabulous experience. Rebecca helped us arrange a taxi from Bodgora airport with a trustworthy taxi driver, she then subsequently helped organise a driver for the day to get us to the zoo and Mall after our toy train joy ride, and a significantly cheaper option to get back again to the airport (Wizzride). We also met Sharon and her daughter and had a delicious breakfast. Set your expectations for the cold - but plenty of duvets and blankets were available and the game changing electric blanket saved the day. The bathroom hot water geser was great, do note it is a bucket shower arrangement. Some really lovely touches of Darjeeling tea to make in your room, chocolates, pictures. Outside it is amazing that the toy train goes past your window and the Mountain Views are spectacular. Wifi was a bit patchy but who cares when you have such gorgeous views. There are shared taxis to the bazaar from right outside for 15 rupees per person which in itself was an experience for my daughter! We would definitely stay again and would warmly recommend staying with Rebecca and her family.

- the concept: it's a hybrid between a hostel and a homestay - the location, because being not in the center (even though on the main road to reach it) it's quieter - the rooms are spacious - there are electric blankets on the beds, which during cold winter nights was a blessing - above all, the staff running this simple place is just incredible, they are so helpful, welcoming and they make you feel at home. They served 3 different types of breakfast, one for each morning I was staying, all of them homemade and tasty. They will give you lots of suggestions to visit darjeeling and its surroundings. - the locals in the vicinity of the hostel are great people, try to go there for a meal, I was there 3 times and it was really great! - the price is absolutely fine for the service provided

There may be some deficiencies, like - no heating in the rooms (but with the electric blanket and the blankets provided I had no problems sleeping comfortably) - mattresses could be improved, even though for me they were great. - instead of a shower, there is a bucket and a plastic jug, maybe some people will find it not so practical, but as there is a great water shortage in Darjeeling this method is more environmentally friendly But as I've said, my experience overall has been more than great, and those minor deficiencies have not impacted my stay
