Grassmarket Old Town Boutique Apartment

The location of the apartment is very central and exactly as described in the details and other reviews. It's over a pub, so sometimes there is a little bit of noise, but this was expected and the bedroom was at the back of the building and quiet. The person who came to check us in was friendly and provided some useful advice but it was clearly a general concierge service, which made for a different experience to the ones described by other guests.

We found the check in to be a bit disconcerting - we weren't able to discover when we could check in until our arrival in Edinburgh (we were told to ring when an hour away), which made it hard to plan our afternoon. The recommendation to leave luggage at the shop downstairs seemed ill-advised, given the appalling reviews of this service online. The apartment is reasonably pleasantly furnished, though the plastic plants everywhere were a bit dusty (and impossible for anyone to clean more effectively, unless they are to wipe every individual leaf). The shower was a bit of a nightmare, spraying water all over the bathroom as the shower curtain was not wide enough to go all the way around.

The flat is a great homebase to explore the city. It's located in the city center, just minutes away from the castle, the old and new town, restaurants, museums, supermarkets, and public transportation. There are all household appliances to feel at your own home, including a french press. What really stands out is the interior design. Whoever did this had a great sense of style and put in lots of creativity while applying a "Scottish" theme.

The shower was a bit of an obstacle

Cael was super nice and gave us the lay of the land fairly quickly. Great addition to your "staff." :) Great advice about Bertie's, too. The hosts are really sweet. The location is perfect for Harry Potter fans and those wanting to get close to the Royal Mile without being right up on it.

We were charged extra for a timeframe outside of the typical. When the plans changed unexpectedly and the timeline, it wasn't refunded. It wasn't a lot, but it sticks in the craw a little. Also, the large artificial plant that hung over the bed a bit was really dusty. Both of our allergies went nuts in that room and dust went everywhere when my husband brushed up accidentally against the plant.

Excellent location. Superbly kitted out with lovely Scottish themed decor.
