Machermore Castle East Lodge

Very little. Shower looked OK but we didn't stay long enough to use it. Contacted owner about lack of pots, pans ect for self catering - was informed there was plenty in cottage. Contacted again next morning with list of cookware available and invited owner to come and cook us a meal.... at which point they admitted unaware there was so little and would instruct cleaners to bring more. We were already repacked and ready to go home by now but hopefully next people who stay here will at least be able to cook meals.

Outside, all views from windows were other properties, gravel and weeds - we pulled all blinds down withing minutes of entering property as it was so depressing. Lack of cookware - not a lot you can do with a couple of small, tatty frying pans, a colander, cheese grater, rolling pin, measuring jug and 3 small/medium saucepans.. Uncomfortable lounge area - much smaller than images portrayed (clever camera angles?), 2 two seater couches which weren't suitable for relaxation for 2 people - had we been a party of 4 it would have felt like a reception waiting area. We arrived Saturday afternoon and left less than 20 hours later.

Great location and very clean. Well equipped kitchen and plenty of space.

Very basic uninspiring outside seating (like sitting in a car park on a picnic bench). Feels like the area in the castle grounds is under development (fencing/ building work) which is a bit of a shame given the nice countryside and castle nearby. Single bed felt uncomfortable and well-used.

We had a fab stay it was very clean.Very easy to get out and about .We also had the dog and it was all fenced off for her to roam about.

There are 2cottages right over the road which are not for rent and one of the ladies who lived there was very miserable.She knocked on the door for us to move our car and It wasnt in the way of anything .I do thinkshe could of been a bit more polite.But other than that I can't fault it

The lodge is in a lovely location if you want some privacy, Newton Stuart is a five minute drive away if you need shops, takeaways etc. But I would suggest you definitely need to have a car. The beds were comfy, the lodge is a good size and it was perfect for me, my friend and my dog.

One of the radiators in the living area would not come on so it was a little cold. There is some mould in the bathroom that does need treating.

Beautiful cottage in a wonderful location. Nice comfy beds, everything you need in the kitchen. Shower is nice and hot and powerfull. So quiet and peaceful

As I've found with lots of self catering, settees are rock hard and uncomfortable, just when you want to relax at the end of the day after a hike, just can't get comfy. The fact you have no control over the heating! At night it was cold and no heating came on, altho the hand book said just to turn the radiator valves on. Toilet seat was loose on arrival and couldn't tighten it.

No breakfast as it was self catering. Location was perfect.

Couldn't fully understand the way the central heating worked. The instructions said it was controlled individually with the thermostatic radiator valves but it seemed to operate independently of those. And came on at random times ??? Not really a problem as we were out all day and in the evening and morning it seemed to come on as if programmed so we were comfortable with it anyway, just a little confused with the instructions, we didn't notice this when we stayed in February 2023 ?

Really comfortable, clean accommodation with everything we needed for our stay. Short walk to the village where there was everything we needed for our stay.

Location was excellent.

Issue with shower where there was no hot water and lodge was bit chilly during the day.
