Orchid House

This is a difficult review to write but I feel I have to write it as I found it. The apartment itself was modern, well cared for and had everything you could possibly need to enjoy your stay. If you wanted to stay in and cook your own food, everything needed to do that was provided. The bedroom was a decent size, the double bed comfortable and a huge wardrobe with a mirrored panel provided storage. The bathroom was clean with a large walk-in shower. The kitchen and lounge area were more than adequate with the sofas perfect for relaxing and watching the large TV. This is a perfect getaway location for one or two.

Unfortunately, a problem with the boiler during my visit, meant that I had no central heating or hot water on my second and third evenings. A portable electric heater was provided but this took time to heat the entire apartment to an acceptable level. The greatest annoyance was the lack of hot water that forced me to have cold showers for 2 consecutive mornings. Unfortunately, the owners were abroad during my visit and took far too long to respond to my initial message about the boiler problem. This meant no action was taken to rectify the problem. A family member was available on the third evening to assist in resetting the boiler but the fault reappeared during the night. Did the boiler problem ruin my stay? Not as such, but it was extremely frustrating and I was disappointed that the problem was not rectified during my stay.

Clean and well equipped with kitchen parafanalia. Quiet area with gated entrance. Bed very comfy and looked beautiful. Bathroom shower excellent. Sofas comfy. Towels provided were proper size bath towels, nice and fluffy. Overall we had a nice stay over the 2 nights.

Key box a little tricky to work out, but worked it out in the end. Some small repairs to the walls needed. Cannot park outside the property, although it's a short walk up the side path to the destination, so not a problem really. Non slip bath mat in the shower would be a bonus as no grab rail.

Quiet location, 20 minutes walk from Southport centre, and from Birkdale station. Very well equipped for a longer stay self catering.

It might be me, but I struggled with the key safe both on arrival and departure. The pins kept sticking it took 3 attempts to open it, and when leaving and returning the key, I could not get it to close for about 5 minutes. Otherwise, highly recommended.

We stayed here for two nights & chose the property as we liked the fact it was self-contained, & self-catering. The location was good for us, & it was a nice & quiet area. The bedroom was nice, & the bed was quite comfortable….the bedding was clean. On first impressions, the property seemed nice & amply sized for a two night stay, but on closer inspection we found a few issues….

We booked the accommodation in January for a stay in September, so by the time we were due to stay, I had forgotten that the access code had been sent to me in January. I messaged the property on here twice asking for the access details (the day before our stay, & the morning we were due to travel), but received no reply, which caused me a great deal of anxiety before we travelled….luckily I spotted the earlier message from the property owners in January, so we were able to access the key safe when we arrived ! Not a good first impression though, disappointing that they didn’t respond to my messages. Unfortunately, we found the bathroom to be in need of TLC as there was paint missing on the wall by the radiator, & all around the shower tray the grout had cracked & the tiles were separated from the shower tray, leaving quite a big gap, which I believe resulted in the musty smell in the bathroom. The listing on here stated that toiletries were provided, however all there was, was a part used bottle of shower gel in the shower & a bottle of hand wash on the sink, so I was glad we brought our own supplies ! There was only one part-used toilet roll provided, which was not enough, & we didn’t feel comfortable knocking on the main house to ask for another one (& felt there was no point messaging the owners, after the no response previously), so we had to go & buy loo rolls ! We felt that the cleaning products provided in the bathroom could have been put in a container or cupboard rather than just left on the floor at the side of the sink, & this would have made it feel a bit more homely. Unsure whether it’s because it is the end of the season & maintenance is due to be carried out soon, but just saying how it was for our stay.

More space to put things in the bathroom, shelf, towel rail for example.

Location very good.

Room extremely dark, In need of repair. Bathroom very poor, cleanliness not very good at all, no clean linen or towels all week, no contact with host at all No lighting when walking to the car very dissapointing.

The apartment was spotless and clean.

We didn't like that you had to park the car away from the accommodation, we were asked to park under a tree when there was plenty of room elsewhere and car took 10 mins in the morning to get all the leaves of the car before setting off. Also the property feels over looked by the owners as you share a back garden with them and its all windows at the back of the owners houses, where they watched tv, and the lady was up in the backroom untill 2am felt like we were being watched, to make sure we weren't doing anything wrong, didn't like how over looked from the house you are. Also we had to stand in the rain to somke as the car was to far to go to and sit in and we were worried about waking people in the main house up. Was a lovely little apartment but we wouldn't go again as it didn't feel private enough for us and with car having to be park a walk away.
