Newly Converted Apartment Rowntree House Shambles

The location is excellent M&S Food across the road is a bonus. The building is beautiful, very clean, has good security and an interesting history. No need for keys, front and apt doors open using a code. The lounge and kitchen work very well A quality, well equipped and attractive kitchen, easy to prepare meals. Small table provided for dining. DW is handy and easy to use. We didn’t use the oven or microwave but both were in excellent condition and looked easy to use. Stylish decor and comfy sofa. Very good smart TV Internet worked very well. Very clean apt, bedding and towels. Quality bedding..sheets and doona. Great rooftop views from all windows. (Apt 7) We didn’t see an AC unit, check with them if you’re staying over the warmer months. Heating in lounge and bedroom, looked good, we didn’t need it though.

Very small bathroom, my husband struggled in the shower. Only one large towel each for 3 nights, hard to get them dry too, there was usually water on the floor to wipe up after my husband showered. A couple of hooks on the wall between the door and basin could be useful to hang towels. Double bed had quality mattress with high quality sheets but it was too small for us, we need at least a queen. We could have used the sofa bed too (when we realised it was a sofa bed) but would prefer a larger bed. Apt is too small for 4 people, in our view. Check out before 10am is too early for quality accommodation. Our booking said we had a washing machine, no washing machine. We attempted to contact our host, left a message, emailed them…no response. The property description needs to be changed to reflect no WM. Of course, even with a WM, there’s nowhere in the apt to dry clothes. Could a WM and dryer be placed somewhere in the building? Lots of stairs from street level to top floor, a challenge with heavy luggage…they may be impossible for some travellers. If stairs are an issue, consider Apts 1 or 2, you still have stairs from street level to level one but far fewer than level 2 or 3. We’d consider staying here again but would look for an Apt with a larger bed and bathroom and on a lower floor. Knowing there’s no WM or dryer, we’d arrive prepared for that.

Very quiet and everything was lovely and clean. Perfect location everything we needed was just outside the apartment. We really enjoyed being so close to the Shambles 😊

Only downside was the apartment was on top floor, but that can't be helped
