Bootham House Apartment-Close to The Minster

Beautiful apartment with everything needed for a family stay. Close to the centre of York. Supermarket across the road which is open late. We stayed in this apartment block in 2022 as well and would stay again.

We were unhappy with having to park across the road in the public car park. Being from overseas we had a rental car so were worried leaving the car there. Last time we stayed in apartment 5 and we’re able to park on site. We thought the check in time of 4pm was a bit late.

It was in a good location, and the decore was nice and comfortable.

The bathrooms smelt horrible, both of them, and the smell spread into master bedroom. It was a nauseating smell. The master bath was the worst, and the smell was so bad that it permeated into the adjoining master bedroom, which, as you might imagine, made the stay in the master unenjoyable. The other bath is a hall bath. We actually shut and kept the doors to the master bath and hall bath closed on the 2nd day we were there after we realized the smells source was the bathrooms. We steared clear of using the master shower the whole time and only used it on the last day to take a quick shower. The smell was less in the hall bath, and that's what we ended up using most of the stay except when we had to on the last day when we all needed to take showers at the same general time. I notified the manager for the unit when we figured it out (as we first thought it was poor cleaning of carpets or linnens, etc), and their response was that they would have it looked at after our stay. That really wasn't the response I was looking for. I expected someone to come out and for the manager to accommodate us somehow to make it right. Caution to others: It's a really strong sewer smell that is really bad. I don't think they can do a simple fix to solve this problem as I think the smell is literally coming from the sewer and venting through the sink, and shower drain pipes. This will likely require a plumber to come in and cut the walls open and put a vent (studamister vent likely) so the sewer fumes aren't able to come up from the drains. **The smell / gas coming up could also be dangerous (i.e., methane gas), which really should cause the management to want to get resolved immediately. Small matter, but it also would have also been nice to have outlets that had more USB or converters in the unit, as our converters didn't work.

The property was excellent for two family member groups

Modern , clean , comfy , beds were comfy , showers great, easy access to centre of York , lift was a great addition as I couldn’t climb stairs

It was beautifully decorated and so close to everything it was perfect.

Hassle to get into to. Maintenance issues. The blinds in both bedrooms were broken. Couldnt open them. Windows also broken. No hanging available in 2nd bedroom Kitchen bench dirty Drunken couple trying to get into our room at midnight. Overall we think we are due a partial refund

Close to amenities. Modern, comfortable beds.

No wardrobe space in one bedroom and immovable drawers in the chest of drawers. The en-suite shower flooded the bathroom which a plumber was supposed to deal with but didn’t. The Qooker tap was a good idea but the main room was unbearably hot as a consequence as the water heater was in the kitchen cupboard.
