Where do I begin? First off, getting a surprise message on the day telling me to pay a £100 deposit which I had been unaware of. I also had to show my passport. As I only had a scan of my passport with me, I was told my booking was no longer available, but 'as a goodwill gesture' I'd be moved to a different accommodation nearby. Given I never met anyone, and only had to send a pic of my passport, I'm pretty sure that they used me not having the physical passport as an excuse to bait and switch the room. When I queried the need for a deposit, I was sent a screen shot of it being mentioned on their advert - but I defy anyone to find where it is, as it wasn't on the original ad and I have since looked again and I cannot see it. The new place was nearby, so not the end of the world from that respect. However it overlooked a very busy flyover, the room was hot, the TV controller didn't work, and it was not an ensuite, and it had a shared bathroom (although I think I was the only one staying in the house, I wasn't to know that at the time and so had the anxieties of sharing a bathroom, dashing across corridors in a towel, etc). Also, the whole check in process was a right pain. I was in London for an event, and really could have done without all the admin of sending documents - in total 22 Whatsapp msgs were exchanged, and multiple phone calls were made. I was assured my deposit would be returned within 3-5 working days, but I had to chase it up after this timeframe had expired. I received it back in full.
