The cave house was fantastic. Clean, spacious and had everything we needed. The host was great also. He met us in the evening in the main square and showed us to the accommodation. He then explained the origins of the house and discussed some key points of interest to see in Matera. He also helped with parking. The location was very good. Right in the centre of the old town.

This is not a negative for the accommodation, but people should be aware that there are steep, narrow stairs from the main square down the accommodation. The whole old town is steep/hilly. You cannot park in the old town. There is free parking just outside the LTZ area, but very difficult to find. Paid parking by meter was our only option. Cost was €10/24H. The host was very helpful with explaining the available parking outside of the LTZ area.

Prachtig ingerichte grotwoning in het oude deel van Matera. Eigenaar kon veel vertellen over de geschiedenis en de bezienswaardigheden. Bijzondere plek!!

Ubicación y amplitud La verdad es que cuando llegamos lo que más nos sorprendió fue la amplitud que tenía pero lo que más nos gustó fue cada detalle lo bonito que está lo bien pensado que está la amabilidad que tuvo con nosotros Giovanni y la cueva es una auténtica preciosidad y muy cómoda para estar y a dos minutos del centro es una experiencia que repetiremos seguro nos encantó todos hemos quedado maravillados con el pueblo con su gente y con la estancia que nos ha hecho pasar tan agradable

The place was unique and located in the historical Sassi area. It was an amazing experience to live in the house that was carved out of a cave. It had all the amenities one needed except for a washing machine. The hosts was very friendly and responsive and gave us very helpful tips as where to go in Matera. This place is a must try for everyone! Just a word of caution. There are many stairs to climb and you need to follow the hosts instructions to get to the place instead of the GPS to avoid climbing many stairs, especially if you have a long heavy luggage. Regardless of the route you take, you will need to climb quite a of stairs to get to the place, but definitely worth it.

You are staying in a very unusual historic place. I had no idea that such cave dwellings existed. The modern refurbishment is done with respect for the original form of the apartment and still feels luxurious. The introduction to the cave apartment's history was very interesting.

Apartament w sercu historycznego centrum Matery. Bardzo czysto i miło. Niezwykły klimat ponieważ apartament jest w jaskini. Sypialnia na antresoli i dodatkowe łóżko na dole. Można zejść jeszcze niżej i zrobić sobie posiadówkę przy beczkach po winie. Internet słaby - działa ale tylko przy oknie w sypialni i drzwiach. Bardzo dobry kontakt z właścicielem na whatsapp. Przed samym przyjazdem wysyła film jak dojść do miejsca zamieszkania. Bardzo blisko dużego placu i miejsc z restauracjami. Naprawdę warto.

It was the perfect stay for me and my family. I’m really glad I decided to celebrate my birthday here. Gio made sure we had everything we needed and gave us great tips for visiting the city. I am 100% recommending this to anyone who wants to visit the city at a slower pace and experience living in an ancient cave dwelling. This place highlights so beautifully the history of the house.

Don’t hesitate just book it ! Unbelievable place , one of the best places I’ve ever stayed ! UNESCO cave house , renovated to the highest standard, near to everything ! Sympathetically decorated to show the history of the place (which by the way is incredible ). The owners give you a historical talk about the cave as you arrive , which is very much appreciated . Thank you for the experience !
