Kevara Self-Catering

Great central location, easy to access all roads to see all the attractions & just up road from Kirkwall for groceries. Fantastic self catering apartment for 2 people with everything you needed. Seperate bedroom gave additional quiet space. The kitchenette had everything you needed, dining table/chairs & comfortable lounge chairs. Heating was fantastic when needed. Glass doors gave access to nice view across water all from the cozy comfort of the apartment. Lovely hamper was provided also. All the comforts of home, could have stayed there longer. Highly recommend this place to stay.

This lodging is perfect for a single traveler or a couple. It’s quiet, pretty, and very clean. I also loved that Sarah had a basket of local goodies for me (bread and coffee, butter, milk, etc.) and gave me recommendations for where I could go for a walk near the property.

Kevara is a great property - the accommodation is located just off the main road, with lovely views over the bay at Finstown and a bathroom and bedroom at the back, which means it is super quiet at night, enabling a really good night's sleep. The bedroom bed is super comfy, a flick of a switch gives you hot water for the shower and the kitchen is well equipped with oven, microwave, fridge and good storage facilities. The chairs in the dining room are very nice and relaxing too, great for looking out over the bay and chilling out in the evening. The hosts are very welcoming - good communication before we arrived and helpful throughout our stay - our flight back home was cancelled and they gave us lots of extra help in re-booking flights and allowing us to use the room for free for extra time until all was sorted - they are a lovely couple - it was our second stay here and on both occasions they have been consistently nice, kind, welcoming and ready to help in any way they can - a kind and laid back vibe is just what I want as a traveller. So overall a perfect place to stay and it is the price of a hotel or guest house room, so why wouldn't you want your own property, peace, quiet and independence.

Finstown is very much a small village and there are no pubs and restaurants, and the one fish and chip shop was closed on the weekend we visited - on the other hand, you really need wheels wherever you stay on Orkney - Finstown is a great location for the ferry terminals to the north and south and also for Maes Hoewe and the Ring of Brodgar - Kirkwall is a ten minute drive away and Stromness maybe 15 minutes, so we were for instance able to get a fish and chip takeaway in Kirkwall and return to the property with the meal still perfectly hot, so it wasn't really a problem for us that the village lacks places to go at night.

A lovely little place to spend a few days in orkney. Very well positioned in the middle of the island and looking at the sea. A good shop just up the road. We actually liked it here better than most of the b&bs we stayed in around Scotland.

Well set up cosy unit with everything you might need including a washing machine. Thoughtful host who left extra treats. Would definitely return.

Just personal preference but we found the mattress didn’t have enough support for us.
