Incredibly cosy and quirky little hut just by the water. The owners are a lovely couple who offer to pick your luggage from the port and drop it off at the house for you. They make dinner reservations for you and can book bicycles too. Super helpful, friendly and welcoming. They made our stay extra special.

"Naoshima is a beautiful place to visit; the art offering is amazing and Tsumuya was great!"

10.0

The house was very clean and comfortable and in a fabulous location - a quiet, pretty area of Naoshima within good proximity of the key art sites and museums. The area was serviced by the local bus, but also within walking distance of a couple of restaurants (you need to book) and the fabulous Naoshima Coffee (only open on the Sunday and Monday of our stay). The key factor that made our stay so fabulous, however, was our great hosts, Kuni and Akkie - they could not have been more helpful in providing advice and guidance prior to and during our stay. Their advice and assistance really ensured we got the most out of our stay and, in the end, we were very sad to leave fabulous Naoshima and our little 'home' there!

Nothing!

"Amazing Stay in a very peaceful spot on Naoshima."

10.0

Incredible Hosts - Met us at the Ferry and brought us and our bags to the property, provided us with a full explanation of both the property as well as the local area. The house itself is very cool - authentic mid-century Japanese house on Naoshima.

The house is in a very quiet area by Japanese standards and the public transport on Naoshima is limited. Make sure you have bikes or car hire, which we were limited to with young kids.

"Peace and tranquility on Naoshima!"

10.0

From the onset, our hosts Kuni and Akkie were extremely responsive and helfpul, providing information about booking bicycle rentals (a must on Naoshima), restaurants and even which restaurants to book based on our itinerary, museum viewing appointments and location in proximity to various venues. One of our best meals in Japan was at a small restaurant (only holds about 10-12 guests) they recommended called Perma, run by a young chef who prepared the meal and did everything else! They also recommended New Olympia which was also very good. The house was perfect for us - a traditional home with tatami rooms and more than enough space for my wife and I. It would also work well for a family of four, except that you would all be sleeping together in the same room. There is only one bathroom, although sink, toilet and bath are all in separate rooms and can be used at the same time. I spent a lot of time going through the many art and design books, many of which I hadn't seen before. The house is in a small village, just steps from the sea and there's a bus stop less than 100 metres away. Also, close by is the workshop Rumina Naoshima, run by Kiyo-san, who makes crafts out of tatami. Kuni and Akkie really went above and beyond - picking us up at the ferry dock and arranging our bicycle rental which was across the street from the ferry terminal. The house is about a 10 minute drive (or 15 min. bike ride) from the Miyanoura ferry terminal. There is a 7-11 in Miyanoura (really the only place to buy groceries and supplies if you want to prepare meals or eat at the house).

"Best hosts we have ever had!"

10.0

Kuni and Akkie are amazing hosts!! They really wanted us to have the best experience possible while visiting the island. They offered to pick up our luggage from the port so we could explore the island the moment we arrived, and made reservations on our behalf for electric bicycles. They offered to book a few restaurants for us, and even drove us to and from them, and on our final day they took us back to the port early in the morning! These kind gestures really boosted up our stay and made our life so much easier, it's beyond words! They also assisted us with the ferry schedules (both to Naoshima and to/from Teshima for our day trip to the Teshima museum). The property is a very authentic Japanese house! While a little old, it's very well kept. It's spacious, had everything we needed and was very clean. Having a washing machine was especially convenient for us after a couple of weeks of traveling Japan :) We visited during winter and felt the house was well equipped. Plenty of hot water, the rooms are heated using strong AC units, and nice thick blankets on the futons. We found the futons and sheets very comfortable, and the outside trees silhouette on the window at night is just enchanting! :) We had a great time there and highly recommend!
