"Disappointing experience"

6.0

Dr Wayne had put in a lot of effort to provide lots of snacks and toiletries and there were all sorts of kitchen gadgets. The room was very well equipped. The view of the working harbour was good.

The property feels very dated and the ground floor is not part of the accommodation but a closed down antique store and a dental surgery. It isn’t a hotel as such, just rooms on the top floor and the check in isn’t in person - you don’t see anyone face to face. The bathroom is extremely dated and all the cups and plates/bowls are disposable - feels quite wasteful if you are self catering. We felt the room rate was very high for a town without any restaurants or visitor attractions. There is a take away style cafe which does pizza/burgers/breakfast and a gas station which sells canned or dried food but no fruit or vegetables. It is a 25 minute drive to the nearest restaurant. We felt we were paying Bar Harbor prices for somewhere which was very far from Bar Harbor! Maybe we should have researched the area more closely but we feel we were a bit misled by the presentation and price of this property which we thought was going to be a treat!

"Wow!"

10.0

Owner outdid himself when designing, stocking rooms. There are 2 sleeping areas, each with its own window and table and a sitting area between them. Spectacular view of the harbor when you wake up. So many surprises as you explore (art supplies, snacks, air fryer, cooktop, large refrigerator, vintage Life magazines!) Beautiful artwork everywhere. Everywhere you look is a treat for the senses. Don't make the mistake that there is nothing to do....minutes away from Machias and their Blueberry Festival. Many, many brochuers available that indicate places to eat and things to do. Don't miss the Historical museum next door. This is a wonderful place to use as your home base as you explore the down east section of Maine.

"Perfect stay at the Beach Rose Studio, Harbor House Hotel, Jonesport."

10.0

This hotel feels like a boutique bed & breakfast with conveniences like a Keurig coffee machine, multiple wireless phone chargers, and an efficient air conditioning system. The clean, spacious Beach Rose Studio has an open-concept layout with two beds at opposite ends, creating distinct sleeping areas that felt both private and connected. The centerpiece was a lounge space with armchairs, an ottoman and a flat-screen TV with access to multiple streaming services. Dr. Wayne, a practicing dentist, is the host here. He knows the area well and lives on the property. He's accessible if you have questions or need anything. My daughter accidentally dropped her heart necklace charm down the drain, and Dr. Wayne came up with a wrench, opened the pipe and retrieved it. The kitchen had everything we needed - 3/4 fridge, microwave, air fryer, and rice cooker. Coffee, tea, and all the cookware were provided. The dining table is in front of a window with an ocean view. The bathroom was clean and well-stocked with toiletries, plus extras like dish soap and a sponge. There were plenty of towels. The shower had excellent water pressure - honestly, it was hard to get out. We wanted to cut it short to conserve water and to get to our planned activities. Some of our stops, all within a 30-minute drive, included: * Sandy River Beach (with parking lot) * Pleasant River Drive-In restaurant with local seafood dishes and ice cream * Rivers Edge Drive In, more local seafood dishes and delicious ice cream * Crossroads Farm where we chatted with Arnold, the owner of the farm for 55 years, and bought carrots and fennel * Hatch Knoll Farms, a goat farm that sells goat cheeses. We got one with spiced blueberries * Wild Blueberry Land, where you'll find everything blueberry. (Good for gifts and souvenirs.) * 103 Main gift shop at the Machias River Inn, also great for souvenirs * Helen's restaurant, known for their pies.

We liked everything!

"Lovely hidden gem!"

10.0

Although the town was teeny tiny, how lucky we felt to be right on the water. Our room was exceptional (artsy and cozy) and the care from the inn taker excellent. The inn is a historical building with really interesting background as well.
