The Mews, York Place by Harrogate Serviced Apartments

The apartment was ideal for a weekend break for myself and my husband. It is in a really good location, only 5 mins walk to the centre and across the road from a large park. It had everything we needed and a bonus was having a smart TV so we could watch and catch up on programmes whilst away. Plenty of wardrobe space and a good shower.

The apartment hadn’t been cleaned when we arrived (half an hour after the check in time). I phoned the manager who apologised and immediately contacted the cleaning company who arrived within 15 mins and did do a good clean. This meant we had to leave the apartment for an hour whilst the clean took place. Not an ideal start but we were happy with the prompt response of the manager. Parking is very tight so would recommend a small/medium car. My husband’s car was too large to fit in the space (BMW 5 series) but luckily the visitor space was free and we managed to manoeuvre into it after about a 23 point turn! The apartment would benefit from a little TLC - a fresh coat of paint, the bedroom door adjusted as it currently catches on the carpet and a new cover for the key safe (it’s missing).

Great location and parking a real plus in Harrogate.

The flat was modern and nicely decorated and furnished. It was fully equipped with a washing machine, dishwasher, iron, and hairdryer. It had basic stuff like shower gel, shampoo, conditioner, tea, sugar and instant coffee.

The Wi-Fi provided was so painfully slow to the point that it was unusable. It was a big problem for us as it was a work trip and we tried to do some work but we just couldn't. Even 4G on our phones didn't work in the flat. Another thing is cleanliness. It must have been one of the dirtiest places I've stayed so far. Don't get me wrong they do have a cleaner who really briefly cleans most of the surfaces but they don't do a very good job. The place needs a really good scrub and deep clean. All of the corners had a lot of dirt and dust, not to mention thick layers of dust underneath the coffee table (I was trying to find a plug for a laptop) or on a router, which I took out from under bedside table to re-set. It was white from dust. The worst was the black curly hair in all corners of the bathroom and even stuck to the tiles. Or the dirty and moldy bath mat rolled next to the sink (it needs to be thrown away really). The host was strange as well. She was really rushing us as soon as we booked to provide her with our email address so she can send us entry access details. When we didn't reply to her after 3 days (as we are busy people and don't check every day) she sent another message starting with 'URGENT' and then even rung me to chase me to provide the email, even with it being nearly 4 weeks before the stay. We started to think it was a bit strange she wanted to send those details so urgently and early so she offered to cancel the booking as if she didn't care about our booking instead of explaining her reasons for it. When I asked she finally said that she has 16 properties and doesn't want to forget to send it. Well due to her sending the details so early I struggled to find them when we got to the property as my email clears every few weeks and I couldn't access it on my phone. She didn't want to send it on booking so I couldn't check on booking.com app.

Only 5 mins walk from the center of town, well equipped flat and clean and tidy.

Location was perfect for exploring Harrogate. House was clean and finish was good. Reasonable value for money.

The property had a damp smell when we arrived, this dissipated so long as we kept the heating on. This property needs to be well aired and heated if you want to get more positive reviews. Confusing from photos on what the accommodation is going to be as the photos are mixed in with the flat upstairs. Parking space very difficult to get in and out of especially if space next door is occupied.

The flat was exceptionally well equipped for our every need and spanking clean. Furniture and appliances were top quality. We especially appreciated the Smart TV in the lounge area as we were able to catch up with our programmes when we returned from eating out in the evenings. We didn't turn the one in the bedroom on, so do not know if it was also a smart TV. There are plenty of restaurants nearby and some really excellent ones if you walk a little further into the centre of Harrogate. The station and bus station are an easy walk so we left our car at home some days.

It's a little dark in the daytime as the only window in the lounge area is at the front, but the lighting is good to compensate. Other than that there is absolutely nothing to dislike. Sorry I have marked the host as neutral, but we never actually saw anyone.

The property was spacious in a good location, within walking distance to the town centre,bus and train stations. It was well equipped with everything needed for an home from home feel. Would definitely stay there again and would recommend the property to family and friends.
