Clean place, good communication

It's located very good and it's super comfy

It needs a bigger trashcan

The host was accommodating and went out of the way to help me with a request. The place was very clean and things were in line with the expectation. The mattress was very comfortable and we slept well.

It wasn't too bad, but here are some observations: - The space isn't too big (or as big as one may feel seeing the pictures) - Thankfully it wasn't very frequent, but you can hear the people staying next door (I think they are permanent tenants in the other basement room).

I have been to 60+ countries and stay in thousands of hotels from top to bottom. I stay here 5 nights and this is one of these most uncomfortable stays I have ever had. This is worse than one of the hammock hostel in the jungle Africa. Below reasons are why.

The Host: This is the first comment Matthew greet us. “these Europeans when they cook they don’t turn the fan on, so don’t be these Europeans”. This sounds rather RACIST, and I restated multiple times that I wouldn’t cook. I operate both short term and long term rentals in London, and I know that sometimes the guests forget to turn the fan on. Gentle remind them or put the sign above the cooker should be sufficient. He constantly reminded us that if we wanted to do laundry, we needed to let him know in advance. Again I told him we didn’t need to do the laundry. They have 24h CCTV screen in the kitchen constant watching us. Once day after a long hike, I needed to use the hose in the garden to clean my shoes because I don’t want to make the room dirty. He saw it on the CCTV, immediately rush in to the back like we would set his house on fire or something. It turn out that we were washing shoes, so told us to multiple times that remember to put it back and rush back in. The place: this is the BASEMENT ROOM with NO WINDOWS. There is no natural light and their kitchen is above and constantly making noise. The shower room is rather dirty with moulds every where. The bed is the memory foam and is outdated with the old sheets. It is not comfortable for me at all. The back door can be open and lead to his man house. He could open it from the inside of course. The location: this place is in east Vancouver so it is not central, the location is not ideal. You need to walk then take 2 buses (1h20mins) or walk bus and train (1h20mins) The checkout: I think everyone knows that the checkout is around 11AM - 12PM. He constantly spamming my personal phone number and email with checking time and washing dishes rules. Our flight is at mid day so we would check at 10AM anyway. And again I remind him that I didn’t cook. All above stories concludes that Matthew is in the business clearly for the money which is of course fine.

It was in a great location. Perfect for tourists.

Nothing

A comfortable place for a trip to Vancouver. The kitchen had everything we needed. There is a fridge and stove. The bed is quite narrow but was ok for us. The city centre can be accessed via line 33 or 22. Both are a 5-10 min walk from the accomodation. In total it takes about 40 min into town. The host was very friendly and welcoming. It was a self check-in and check out.
