Mare Gaia Apartments

The location was excellent and the view was outstanding

Before even arriving, we were so impressed with the hostess, Dimi! She answered all our requests and needs to perfection in a professional and timely manner. Upon arrival the flat was exceptional: clean, great location and very comfortable. We can only say the combination of a great hostess and comfortable flat makes this a perfect holiday destination.

The location of the apartment is fantastic. It is literally just minutes away from dozens of great bars, restaurants, etc. that are in the center of Skiathos town. The host Dimi is really lovely and she always answered our questions/concerns immediately via WhatsApp.

While the apartment has a great location, it was lacking in many ways. This review is in regard to apartment #1 on the ground floor. The jacuzzi is only available for the people renting the penthouse apartment and not the other apartments in the building. This should have been made more clear in the property description. The kitchen area smelled like raw sewage. The bathroom had a weird layout and the sink was small, making things like washing hands, face, etc. messy, and most importantly, the WiFi wasn't working properly for the majority of our stay and the data coverage in the apartment was terrible. This ended up becoming a huge issue as it became difficult to keep in contact with loved ones back home whenever we were in the apartment. Considering that it costs around €180/night to rent this apartment, we were definitely expecting better quality than what was delivered.

The apartment was spacious, nicely decorated, with a big bed, living room and a nice renovated bathroom to shower. Hotel staff were friendly, offer free pick-up from the port upon arrival and to store your luggage in another property for some hours if needed upon checkout.

I booked last minute so I had to pay almost $200 for one night since everything else was sold out in the island (mid August). This was definitely too expensive for this apartment. I got the ground floor apartment out of the 3 floors, so there was no view, just a small patio facing a wall. It felt a bit like a semi-basement, although it was technically a ground floor. The room was also smelly, like needing more fresh air, and the AC was not strong at all to help. I slept on the couch-bed which was ok but not great (a bit firm). I can't imagine sharing the couch easily with one more person, although they advertise that this apartment can host 4 people in total (2 people in the big bed which was actually good). Finally, we had to walk ~5-7 minutes on a steep street up and down to go to the port area (passing through "maxilares" bar area). That was fine but not great, especially when I saw other people were staying in hotels inside the flat port/village area.

Demi was amazing!She has proved very kind and helpful since the first contact and fast in offering any information. She suggested us a place for renting a scooter, she booked a taxi for us and she offered to pick us up from the airport on our arrival day. Last but not least...the apartment is located less than 5 minutes walking distance from the center and the old port where all the restaurants, shops and bar are.

The information about the different solutions provided were not very clear and I got just a little bit confused by receiving messages about it after the reservation.

Location was perfect! Peaceful and authentic.
