Ren Feb26 Clerigos Retreat

Location was very central. Large living space. Great communication with property manager. Plenty of beds for a group of 6.

Got locked in the building as someone living in the apartment had used a key to lock the door which we do not have. We had to knock on a neighbours door to get them to unlock it. No shower head holder.

- The hosts were very nice, and they offered help every time we needed something. At some point we asked for washing machine tablets and they gave us some very quickly. - Usually you can get into the building without a key, so it is very useful to be able to enter the apartment just with a code, specially when you are a big group. - It was in a very good location; very close to everything. It's literally 3 minutes away from the 'party zone'. - It was quite cheap.

- Some of the kitchen stuff was in not so good condition, making it hard to cook sometimes. The frying pan was so dirty we ended up using the saucepan to make eggs. - The small toilet was leaking water from the bottom, and to flush it you had to lift the top of the toilet instead of using the button (???). - Shower drain didn't work properly so when we all showered in the morning it would almost get flooded by the amount of water that would accumulate. - The living room beds were uncomfortable to sleep in, so we had to rotate in between us so everyone had the chance to sleep in a proper bed. - The paper the indicated the wifi was wrong, and we had to ask them about it. - There was no oil or washing tablets when we arrived, which to be fair, isn't necessarily their responsibility. But now a days hosts usually do provide these basic things.

1. it wasn’t cleaned properly. 2. one of the beds contained bed bugs 3. the pictures don’t show the real interior of the accommodation. It is photographed well, but some of the furnitures weren’t at its place 4. the bathroom was horrible. the shower wasn’t insulated, water was leaking everywhere in the bathroom 5. the toilet wasn’t working properly, we had to rise the top of the container every time we wanted to flush 6. Scarcity of blankets (we got 5 instead of 6)

Location was very good. We walked and explored a lot. Excellent restaurants nearby. Ivo, the manager was wonderful and responsive.

For 1000 Euro per week, the place felt very cheap. Light fixtures were not installed properly, plants were fake, cabinets were hanging open, one of the toilets did not flush and the bathroom was moldy. The place does not look anything like the photos. It’s like they renovated those photos with cheap materials. Next, it is not set up for a long-term stay. There was no cleaning schedule, barely any towels, no extra sheets, We had to ask for paper towels and toilet paper on the very first day; the basics that any place usually has. Ivo, the manager was phenomenal at being responsive. But do I really need to ask for toilet paper on the first day? You know our reservation is for 21 days. Lastly, the bugs. A few days into our stay, we started getting rashes. We were itchy and started seeing welts form from bug bites. After a week, we were covered in them. We were sleeping in long pants and socks and keeping all the windows and doors shut (there’s no AC) at night. Ivo came again and sprayed store-bought bug repellant throughout the apartment, but the next morning we had hundreds of bites. Fleas or bed bugs, it doesn’t matter. We had to vacate and find a new place for three people for the remaining 2 weeks of our stay. While that is bad enough to warn people off of staying here, it wasn’t until the owner said he would only refund us 550 Euro (of almost 3000E) for our trouble that this became a truly awful experience that warrants this long of a review. That wasn’t even enough to cover the days we were not there - much less account for the trouble of a bug infestation. Moral of the story, stay away. In my 3 years of full-time travel, I have never paid so much and gotten so little in terms of quality and service from a place. I’ve never stayed in a place with so many bugs. Stay at your own risk, and book with a credit card that has your back in case you also need to fight this owner that is clearly looking to overcharge and capitalize on Portugal’s summer popularity.

The position of the structure is great, in the centre of Porto and near to the subway station. You can reach all the major points of interest by walk. The self check in is very convenient. We have never seen the host, who has been helpful and kind using the chat on Booking.
