Kitchen and bathroom could only be reached thru the main bedroom.

it was such a good idea to book Mooiplaas to stay at for the last night, before flying back home to Canada. Instead of staying in a character-less airport hotel we chose this location as the perfect ending for our South African adventure. This beautiful estate, located far from the road, hidden amongst the trees, a nearby meadow with cows and their newborn calfs. The peace and quiet trying to envision what it was like living here around 1806. Stepping into the estate's main room was like visiting our Oma (grandma) in Holland. Similar furniture, Delft Blue china and a bed built into the walls in one of the bedrooms. Our group of 7 had two huge bedrooms with more than enough space for everyone. As always, a pity we didn't have more time to add another night to stay. Our grandchildren (9/12 and 15 y.old) will not easily forget our stay at Mooiplaas.

Looking for a historic yet modern place to stay in the middle of a traditional working wine estate: we highly recommend staying at the manor house on Mooiplaas estate. Authentic family-owned working wine estate in the Bottelary Hills of Stellenbosch rooted in the heart of a private nature reserve.

Everything was perfect. Easy drive from Cape Town Airport to the beautiful location on the wine estate next to a nature reserve. Very friendly host , Janine, made sure we had everything we needed and Nico ,at the tasting room ,made sure we enjoyed the wine tasting. Next time I will bring walking shoes and binoculars for nature walks and birdwatching.

Surroundings and main house

The room we rented for the evening was terribly dusty. I understand that builders worked on the property, but the dusty rooms should not have been rented out in this condition. What I also never can phantom, and this is also evident with Mooiplaas, is that because the building has a long history and was built generations ago, owners have this misplaced idea that their guests want to sleep on 100-year-old beds and be comfortable in ball and claw chairs. Very dark furniture. Why not quality, modern, comfortable furniture that can easily be cleaned and dusted? Mooiplaas as a lodge has much potential but not as a dusty sleep-in museum.
