Makhato Bush Lodge 109

Nice location, big house. Buck, zebra and giraffe roamed freely around which was nice to see.

We found 3 or 4 bats in the house. One was sitting against a curtain, the other 2 were flying around in the main bedroom. On checkout we found one on the floor at our bedroom door. The bedding is, sorry to say, in a terrible state. First of all the queen size bed is actually just 2 single beds pushed together. The throw on the bed was torn in 2 places. The pillows were completely worn out and floppy. There was also an unpleasant smell coming from the bathroom. One morning we found bat droppings in our bed. We also found what looked like some kind of animal trap (bats or rats?) beneath our bed which we only saw at checkout. So overall not a very pleasant experience.

We liked the animals in the lodge, the cleanliness of the unit was ok except in the loft. We also liked that there were ample utilities to prepare our meals within the kitchen. The unit was spacious to accommodate all of us.

We didn't like that the door on the outside unit was damaged. The lock was faulty and needed a lot of force to close. There was dust in the loft, we had to ask the cleaning staff to first clean on our arrival.

The location is excellent and the many marked cycling routes are very nice. We enjoyed the animals and the weekend outdoors was very relaxing,

We stayed at Makhato 109 a few years ago and we were happy to return. However the property has suffered some neglect and the general upkeep is lacking. The front door lock is broken (we reported this at reception). There used to be a kettle in each of the seperate rooms for coffee making in the morning. There are cups but no kettle. Loadshedding has also taken its toll on the freezer. Some of the kitchen cupboards smell very damp. The outside table needs serious attention. There are loungers but no cushions to put on them.

The location is perfect and very spacious with a lot to see. Game drives were great. Big herds of wild animals stroll and graze close to the premises and a number of birds species can be seen. Close to the swimming pool.

The maintenance is not done regularly. Table at braai area is in bad shape. To use the stove is a nightmare (plates), because all settings are scrubbed off. Fridge door handle is going to break off soon.

Alot of space and a beautiful house. Fantastic Boma.

Due to the fans not working it was Hot. That said the owner was fantastic and extremely accommodating.
