What breakfast ?

Poor communication, we spent hours trying to find the place, all we had was an address 20 Castle Terrace & the Name , Pear Tree Cottage , problem is street signs are not a plenty, we met with at least 20 locals and the best we got was location of street , so I walked down the side walk , which was5 feet below the elevation of the street. There was an 8” x 10” sign near the door next to #20 , so that is why the locals don’t know where the Pear Tree Cottage is.

Beautiful cottage, small but fabulously set up. Lovely secure out side space with great garden furniture.

Lack of parking. The cottage is on a busy road, inside the cottage the road noise was intrusive.

"A lovely space in general. Description of cottage, needs to include detailed DISABLED ACCESS info."

6.0

Cottage was lovely and very clean throughout, with good kitchen facilities, lots of plates, glasses, pans etc. Draw space under the bed to stow things. Nice patio outside. Towels provided, Free shampoo & Conditioner WIFI, really comfy bed with extra blankets if needed, really comfy pillows, warm space, TV with Netflix, Prime (however, did lose signal at times).

Would have been good, if there was someone to meet us at cottage to explain how things work, (which switches belong to what) etc and check if all is what is expected, functional. (I know this is not the norm, but as this cottage is linked to The Royal Oak Hotel...) DISABLED ACCESS not good in areas. Considering the hotel (The Royal Oak, who own the cottage) told my son over the phone before i booked, that the Pear Tree was their disabled friendly space, it's not the best. There is a steep incline from the pavement, that goes down to the pedestrian passage that leads to the cottage. BATHROOM: I could see from the photos before i booked that the shower space did not have one of those fold down seats or commode type chairs, that you would have in a disabled shower, so, i emailed the hotel and asked if they could provide me with one of those plastic garden chairs for me to be able to lower myself and sit, to shower safely; they were happy to oblige. A week before I arrived, I rang and asked if they could provide me with a bathmat too and check that i would be provided with a plastic chair with arms, for me to be able to sit down and shower safely. I explained that i needed the arms to help me sit into it and get out of it. They said they would do that. I asked if they had grab rails where toilet was and they didn't believe so. I then checked if a wheelchair could fit into bathroom, and they explained it was a squeeze. Though i knew what to expect and what not to, when we arrived, i headed to the bathroom to check things out and saw that, the toilet was pretty low and the entrance to the actual shower was narrow. (The photos do not convey how narrow). I could walk in with crutches, but it was quite stressful trying to manoeuvre through. They had put a mat in the shower, BUT the chair was a fold down chair, with no arms, and unsafe for me. So had to ask them to change it. Which they did, to a more suitable one. Staff lovely, but need to be more DISABLED savvy.
