Apartments Zavala

Staying here was the highlight of our three days on the Ciro rail trail. Theo and Ana have beautifully restored the old railway station and are wonderful hosts. Both dinner and breakfast were outstanding - local recipes and freshly baked bread, served on the sunny terrace, overlooking the enormous karst plain below. Very highly recommended and we would have loved to stay longer!

When we arrived we were immediately greeted and invited for a drink. Everything felt very personable. Great food for dinner and breakfast. A lovely location, quiet with a view that is nothing short of amazing. We are travelling by bike and could leave them in a safe area, though the whole location felt very secure. Comfortable bed and a big room. We left the window open at night and had a little serenade from a nightingale. A fantastic experience all around.

Everything- suite was so tastefully decorated as was the entire building, food was amazing and the couple Anna and Teto were fabulous hosts!

Everything was on top level. We could not think about anything which could be improved. Theo and his wife made our stay just wonderful! Great hospitality and delicous food and drinks- thank you!

Amazing experience in Zavala. We had already booked the night in Bosnia when the rental car enterprise told us we hadn't the choice to cross the boundary. 500 euros fine. After some calls and some messages, Teo, the hotel manager, came to pick us up in the Croatian border and he took us to the hotel. Amazing adventure in the border. After 20 minutes listening to good life experiences of the Balkans (especially those of Croatia) in his car road to Zavala , his wife gave us some local gulash and some 40 degrees liqueur. Some of my friends snored like a baby thanks to the grapes of the drink. The following day we took a big and varied breakfast, we enjoyed the views and we cotinued to the border again with the help of Teo. He gave us again some other good lifestories about the country, life and history. Marvelous. After that stay I think Croatia, Bosnia and the Basque Country (ourselves) are closer than ever, more than by the name itself ("zabala" in Basque is wide and in Bosnian...you'll have to find out there).

In the heart of Popovo Polje, the Zavala Apartments are an oasis of peace and a lighthouse, which with its light of love, hospitality and humanity, welcomes its guests, with open arms and hearts, as close friends, creating the feeling of "coming home". Every detail in the space exudes dedication and a sincere desire of the hosts to provide guests with a unique experience. The high-vibration food, prepared with love, not only nourishes your body, but also nourishes your soul. An atmosphere in the evening was full of joy, reminding us how precious is the simplicity of life and our true human nature. The bed was so comfortable, I slept like a baby. The location is great, close to Mostar, Trebinje and the Croatian coast (the town of Slano). You can ride a bike (there are also organized bike tours), visit the magical Vjetrenica cave (located next to the apartments) or simply relax on the deck chairs and enjoy the fresh air, with the chirping of birds and the beautiful landscape stretching into the distance. I am grateful to have found this gem, which I will definitely visit again.

The owners were immediately welcoming, spoke fluent English. We were treated to a Grappa and given lots of information about the area. Lovely evening meal, made to feel as if we were old friends. Comfortable and clean . Unexpected fantastic breakfast especially given the price we paid for the accommodation. Fully recommend to anyone visiting the area. Right on the Ciro trail. Great for family cycling or walking
