"Satisfactory"

Historical, in a good location. A little tired.

Probably seen better days, but no complaints.

"Travelled as a couple to celebrate our 32nd wedding anniversary. The local wineries are fantastic and easily accessible."

9.0

The quaint stone cottage is located in the small township of Mintaro. This allows great exploration of the entire Clare Valley and beyond if you have the time. The Scholar cottage is well equipped, has a comfortable lounge, bed and a spa for two. There is a/c, heating for the cool evenings and mornings and a wood fire for the colder winter months.

Could do with a minor makeover, refresh paint, clean the windows/cobwebs, cracked bathroom basin.

"Was a good place to use as a base to see the region. So long as the cobwebs don’t bother you."

6.0

The location was perfect. The old/historic features of the building were wonderful

Cobwebs everywhere. Was difficult to put our motorcycles in the garage, a car would have been no easier.

"Rustic disappointment"

3.0

The Old World charm of the building from the outside. The Magpie and Stump hotel 5 minutes walk away.

The inside of the Carpenter was another story. We opened the door and were greeted by a foul smell coming from the bathroom. After spraying the room with deodorant and wiping the toothpaste stain from around the sink we explored the rest. The smell never really went away during our stay. Everything was dirty/dusty inside the property. We found mouse droppings on the small rickety kitchen table next to the tea bags. The lounge cushions were dirty so we swapped them for some we found in the bedroom. The small refrigerator, which had not been defrosted in months contained nothing but a tiny box of uht milk. The kitchen sink while clean had a wand scourer that was filthy. We intended to have a BBQ for the evening meal, but changed our minds and went to the delightful little Pub down the road, because the bbq was filthy and with nothing to clean it. I've stayed in rustic places on many occasions across the world, but this tired and very poorly maintained old house stretched that charming descriptive word to breaking point.

Breakfast wasn"t included which we expected. It is a great location and was good value for money.

Some area's are a bit tired.

"Disappointing."

5.0

Location was great.

Check in time was 2pm. Upon arrival at 2.30pm we went inside to find the accommodation was not cleaned from the previous guests. We thought there was someone still living in the accommodation when we opened the door and then quickly went back outside and rang the owner. She then informed me the cleaner was not coming until later and we were unlikely to be able to check in until later at approx. 4pm. No communication was provided until we rang and found out the rooms were not ready to check in. Given we had travelled approx. 2.5 hours with family/friends this was not expected and the condition of the accommodation was unacceptable. We then had to wait around for approx. 1.5 hours until the cleaner came and cleaned the accommodation. After asking the owner what she could do given this situation she provided a dollar value off the price.

"Loved the town and location, cottage needed attention."

5.0

Location and history of the town. Garden, BBQ and access to tank drinking water were good.

Cleanliness. Surface clean was evident, but dirt, cobwebs on pictures, walls, ceiling fans and curtains need attention. Most kitchen equipment was greasy and had to be washed before use. No flywires on doors or windows for fresh air.
