There was nothing to like!

I drove 170 miles, to meet with my friend, we booked this house well in advance, just as I was pulling into Torquay, the booking was cancelled with no explanation. I had already spoken to the host an hour before asking if I could check in an hour earlier, as we had dinner reservations and needed to freshen up. There was no mention of any issues. I tried contacting the hosts, and they refused to speak to me. Booking.com told me that they had double booked, in an other words, someone offered them more money to stay there than what we originally paid. We had to find alternative accommodation, which cost us alot more, and the refund won’t even be back in my account until a weeks time, so I had to lend money for the weekend. DO NOT USE THIS HOST, they haven’t even responded to my complaint! Disgusting!

Walking distance to a lovely beach

On arrival, the entrance code did not work. Had to contact the owner and was given different code. There was also no parking available, and when I asked about this in advance, the host did not respond. There was a very strong mould smell throughout the hallway and staircase. The carpets in the apartment were filthy – after walking around in socks, they were disgustingly dirty. There were numerous stains, sticky patches, and the carpets did not appear to have been vacuumed. I would have cleaned them myself, but there was no vacuum cleaner provided. Several window handles were broken, which is particularly dangerous for families with small children as the apartment is on the first floor and there were no child safety locks. Two fans were provided, and none of them was working. The listing suggests multiple beds, but in reality there are only three proper double beds. The remaining sleeping arrangements are 2 sofa beds, and 2 tiny beds very uncomfortable and not really suitable for adults only for small children. There was also a damp smell coming from the wardrobes, so I did not feel comfortable storing my clothes in them. The apartment is located on a very busy street with several takeaways, a launderette, and a pub nearby. It was extremely noisy at night, with shouting and drunk people outside, making it difficult to sleep. The terrace decking needs cleaning, the barbecue was dirty with ashes I guess left by previous guests inside and over the grill, and the oven contained sticky trays. Overall, the apartment was dirty, poorly maintained, and had unpleasant smells throughout. If you are looking for a clean, comfortable, and relaxing stay, this is not the place I would recommend.

The apartment is absolutely beautiful. The decor throughout is very nice and well thought out. The kitchen was fully equipped with cutlery, pots and pans, crockery, microwave, kettle, toaster, oven, fridge freezer, washing machine and dishwasher. As a family of 5 (all girls!) having two bathrooms and two showers was incredbly helpful. The whole property was incredibly clean and well looked after. We loved it there so much my children didn't want to come home!

The only downside is that there is no parking that can be used for more than one hour with no return for 2 hours. However, this wouldn't put me off staying at the property again.
