Royal Mile, Edinburgh - 2 Bedroom Apartment

This property was in the middle of the Royal Mile, ideal for tourists like me. It was clean, had everything we needed, and easy to get to.

If you have motility issues, please be aware that you will need to climb stairs to get to the apartment.

A perfect location in Edinburgh. Loved looking down on the Royal Mile from the upstairs window. We felt really amongst it. Atmospheric! A good size with lounge and living area and reasonably equipped kitchen.

A little tired but what we expected from a very old building. Challenging steps with suitcases.

Location was excellent, beds were comfortable, bedrooms were very quiet even though we were so close to everything. Everything was clean and it was a lovely space but there were a few issues (see below)

Be aware that this flat is accessed via a fairly narrow spiral staircase (~50 steps). Not a problem for us but people with mobility issues need to be aware there is no lift. Beyond communication regarding our arrival time and how to get in, we had no contact with the owner. There were a number of small issues that could be easily and inexpensively solved but collectively were a bit annoying given the cost of the accommodation. The first thing we noticed when we walked in was an overpowering sewer smell that turned out to be coming from the kitchen sink. We boiled the kettle and poured a few pots of boiling water down the drain and this helped, but it did not make for a great first impression. Other quibbles: the coffee press was broken and I had to mend it with string; there was only one teaspoon (the other spoons were all tablespoons); the can opener does not work; an actual salt shaker would have been nice.

The location is fantastic, right on the Royal Mile. Being central and within walking distance of so many sights is why we chose this place and it did not disappoint. The check-in process was easy as well. The welcome chocolates were a lovely touch and pleased the kids!

Be ready for the winding stairs to the apartment, leave your large suitcases at home. The apartment can get noisy once pubs close in the early hours as there are many pubs around, having said this, it didn't happen every night and probably happens all along the royal mile. It felt a tad run down to us. There was no info on where to take your rubbish. Overall it was a pleasant stay

Location was amazing! Awesome to be right in the middle of the action! Bag pipers in the morning, even got to see a parade from above. Nice to be close enough to pop back in between activities. Stairs are steep might be challenging with big luggage. Check in was a breeze!

Although clean, this place is getting a little run down. Paint peeling, carpet waring and there is a weird plumbing set up with the shower that also effects the sink pressure. The double bed was dreadfully uncomfortable and the singles not much better. Would be lovely to upgrade to a smart tv so guest could sign on to streaming services. There was a horrible smell in the kitchen area, that wreaked of water damage. Don’t know if there is a current internal leak or a past one that wasn’t properly remediated as there is spongy spots in the flooring. To the Host’s credit he did come to investigate and tried pouring bleach down the sink, to rid of past guest cooking smells- it didn’t help at all. Lastly there is a condensation issue in the fridge- we put a pizza box with leftovers in overnight and it was soaking in the morning.

Location is fantastic, it won't be beaten.

There is a winding staircase up to the 3 floor apartment, but all the surrounding buildings are the same. This was not really a problem for my family, but maybe for those with mobility issues.

The location couldn't be better! It was easy to locate and to access the keys. The flat was big enough for the four of us (all adults). The sound from the busy High Street didn't reach the bedrooms, so we slept well. Since we love the bagpipe, it was a treat to have music accompanying our breakfast every morning. The windows are single-glazed, so not possible to shut out the sound from the street. The kitchen contained the essential equipment to make breakfast and lunch. Everything worked well for us. We are happy with our stay, especially with the location. What a treat to exit the staircase and find yourself right on the Royal Mile!

The stairs to the flat are rather narrow and steep. This wasn't a problem for us, but it might be worth mentioning.

The apartment was perfectly placed, directly at the main street. Easy to find and enter (keys in a key box). The staircase was not a problem for us, the eldest was 75 during the stay (and in could shape). Neither was the shower. Nice amenities and views. Good price compered to other places in the area.

There was an odd smell in the kitchen. Loud from the street, but not a problem- the bedrooms faced a quiet backyard. The hallway needs some love, the paint was flaking off the wall.
