Herdade dos Grous

Our one night stay at Herdade was excellent, where we also enjoyed an excellent dinner and attentive service. Reception staff were very kindly, helpful and efficient. Our room was in a separate building, a short drive or bicycle ride from the reception/restaurant overlooking a lake with lots of nesting cranes in the trees on the other side of the lake. Beautiful! The space had a separate bedroom, bathroom and living area with a small dining table, sink and crockery as may be needed. Being a rather cold day, the rooms were well heated ahead, along with the provision of a complimentary bottle of the estate's wine, both of which we appreciated. Even a fireplace for your own convenience was available with wood if one preferred. Bedding and towels were all excellent. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it highly.

A more efficient bathroom extraction fan would be an advantage. Provision of a second luggage rack would have been welcomed.

It was just breathtaking - gorgeous scenery within the property. Our room was fabulous. Breakfast was excellent. We were able to light a wood fire in the room.

Not the fault of the property but I wish we had known the accommodation was a 1.5 (ish) km from reception - could have avoided dragging suitcase out of the car unnecessarily. There were absolutely no lights on on the pathway beside our room when we went back at 22.30 ( after our evening meal). We found out in the morning there were actual lights in the area but as they were not on it was pitch black & very dangerous- we used our phone torches. The bath was amazing as a bath but totally unsuitable as a shower - the base was too slippery & there was not a “grab” rail if one did slip. Not acceptable for a 5* resort.

Glorious setting by a lake - with so much birdlife, footpaths to follow, free kayaks and bikes. A super room with fruit and wine to welcome us. Gorgeous swimming pool and loungers. Breakfast taken on the terrace with beautiful views. Staff all so professional, friendly and welcoming. Thank you!

The vegetarian option on the dinner menu was a little disappointing given the high quality of the rest of the food.

Absolutely everything Staff is so nice, warm & polite. being there was spectacular. Wine is just perfect. great experience.
