"Bingalows Pacificos"

10.0

We chose to stay with Anita Hafner in her hillside "bungalows" because of rave reviews we read on this Web site. It proved to be a good choice. Reasonably priced, easy walk into town (there are steps or hill, realize), and so "private." Great view, nice breeze (when it's up) on covered veranda. Not modern or newly furnished, but "real." Only Mexican A/C (ceiling fan over the bed) if you go after Easter or before December--important to note. Definitely a place for those travelers who enjoy "older," established tourist places rather than new high rises. She's been in Zihau since 1968, for Pete's sake! Enjoy.

"home away from home"

8.0

We have stayed here 3 times and look forward to our next time in March. Anita Hahner, the owner, is a charming and lively lady who is fluent in both German and English. The accomodations are basic: large bedroom with ceiling fan (no A/C), bathroom, kitchenette, one or two extra beds in the hallway leading to a large deck, about 1/3 of which is covered and where a dining table + chairs, a coffee table & lounge chairs and a hammock are located. The exposed part of the deck has been constructed with a pronounced slope, so that the view of the bay is excellent even when, beer in hand, you're swinging in the hammock. There are many flowering plants on 3 sides of the deck which attract hummingbirds and butterflies. The rate in 2003 was US$82.00/day which included 17% tax and daily maid service. This place is within walking distance of anywhere you might want to go in Zihua, with the exception of Playa Las Gatas, which we get to via water taxi from the pier, a 10 minute walk away. Since I'm the cook in our household, we always eat out when on vacation. For breakfast we go to the Casa Cafe, directly below where we stay, (on the town side of Cerro Madera) on Calle Adelita. We also like the Malibu Cafe which is only a little farther on Ejido (I believe) and is air conditioned. Lunch for us is generally just a snack on the beach (Las Gatas - Restaurant Otilia). Many good options for dinner; among them Tamales y Atoles "Any" for good REAL Mexican. More expensive: Coconuts in the alley near the corner of Juan Alvarez & Vicente Guerrero. Quite expensive, but well worth going to: La Casa Que Canta. The food is good, but the location is phenomenal; very romantic! If you can't live without hamburgers: La Mordida on Paseo De La Boquita - if you don't mind the traffic noise, or Capricho's on Cinco De Mayo, near the church. e-mail me if you'd like more detailed information.
