"Acceptable value for money, convenient location, yet the host should have done things better"

5.0

The property is conveniently located in Luxor's West Bank, 5 min away from the boat crossing to the East Bank, and about 20 min away by taxi from the Valley of the Kings and other major archeological sites. The property is spacious, visually appealing and has a walled garden with benches where you can chill and have breakfast. The breakfast is homemade and features a variety of local foodstuffs, including fūl (a stew made of beans), a staple of Egyptian cuisine.

We rented a room with three beds, breakfast included. Upon our arrival, one of the owner's kids kindly mentioned a "welcome drink" and proceeded to ask us what sort of drink we would like. We told him that we wanted water, and this is what we were offered. To our surprise, we later found out we had to pay for those three bottles of water - ok, no problem -, but at the staggering price of 50 EGP per bottle, 5 times the normal price for a 1L bottle in any convenience store in Egypt. We also decided to have lunch upon our arrival, and dinner the day after. Even though the food was homemade and involved no "service", we were charged 750 EGP for each of those meals, almost matching the prices you pay for meals and service at restaurants in downtown Luxor. Overall, we had the feeling we were being gouged for those drinks and meals. In addition, the bathroom was not thoroughly clean; we had an ant infestation that later spread into the room; and the shower hose was falling apart but was clumsily repaired with tape (which ended up breaking apart and spilling water in every direction). In addition, no functioning WIFI was available throughout our 3-night stay; we mentioned this to the owner and he was surprised by that fact, but did not made the effort to follow up on it. Last but not least, to note that as of November 2023, Egypt has been undergoing power outages affecting some areas in major urban areas across the country. Luxor's West Bank seems to be one of those areas; even if power outages have become a recurrent event in many Egyptians' lives for the past months, we were not given any explanations by the owner on why suddenly there was not electricity in the building and the entire street (instead, one of the owner's kids welcomed us with a lit candle and asked us what we wanted for dinner). To sum up, the owners could have done more to make our experience a bit more pleasant.

"A good inexpensive room on a top of a building with a nice view and a great staff."

8.0

Our room was on the top of the building, so you have a nice view on the nearby banana plantations and the mountains not so far away. Plus early in the morning you can sightseen the hot air balloons. The room and bathroom are big enough. The owner of the hotel speaks English, he very helpful and friendly. The breakfast they provide was tasty and big, so we could have not even finished it.

The room is on the top of the building and there is no elevator, so it may be a little bit exhausting for you to go up. The room, bed and furniture were a little bit sandy, but nothing truly significant. Plus some of the furniture was not in the best condition. The other thing is that the location of that hotel, it is quite far away from the main road, thankfully the neighborhood is safe (at least in our experience), so it was not a major problem of us.

Good location. Walking distance to the port (10 to 15 minutes) where you can take a boat to the east bank. Nice view to the Kings Valley (rooftop), where you can watch the ballons in the morning. Very nice family. All very friendly. Our children loved to play with the family's children. We had reserved a triple room and we where given a family room with extra beds for the same price. We had two dinners in the guesthouse. Typical Egyptian food which tasted wonderfully. We have now been in Egypt for 7 days and have stayed in both 3 and 4 stars hotels. This guesthouse has been by far the best. Very good for Egyptian standards. Highly recommended.
