Om-Abdallah

The island is very quiet and I felt secure. The delicious breakfast was sufficient food for the entire day. The staff are helpful and kind. Many people coming from Sudan, as I was, felt at home here.

Water pressure was sometimes an issue, but that is to be expected.

It’s a wonderful stay experience at Om Abdallah, the host Saif and his brother are friendly and more than helpful. And the room is clear with peaceful surroundings. Highly recommend to stay here and enjoy the lovely Elephantine island.

Whoa - this was a step back into old world charm of an island without cars, where folks grow their own food and live in a community where everyone takes care of each other - including tourists. The proprietor and host Saif was very friendly and spoke excellent English. His snacks were delicious especially the homemade juice. You will take a ferry that runs at least 5am to 11pm, and walk a few blocks. Saif sent a carrier to help with luggage. My septuagenarian and pre-school age travel companions managed the walk and embarkation fine. The shower was hot with good pressure and spacious. The A/C worked fine. The accommodations are otherwise simple; it's an economical place where Egyptians and tourists stay alike

Elephantine Island is not for everyone - if walking through many narrow passageways after taking a ferry, or life without nightlife is not for you, consider sticking to Aswan on the East Bank of the Nile. The local ferry passengers segregate by gender, and consider it polite for tourists to do the same.

This is a little Nubian house with few rooms (around 6). The room doors open to the main hall and the open plan kitchen. It is located in a little Island that you reach via a public ferry. Make sure you take the ferry that lands you close to the house (The southern "Maadeyya Quebleyya" near Feryal Park not the once close to KFC. At the time of writing this, the cost of the ferry is 5 pounds for non Egyptians and 1 or 2 for Egyptians. The staff are polite and helpful. They offer you fruits, tea and coffee as part of the hospitality. It is clean but don't expect a 5 stars service, beds or linens. I haven't tried breakfast there but there are other options outside and in Aswan itself.

It is inevitable to hear the noise from other guests in the main hall as all doors open to this communal space. You will enjoy the place more if you are not a very light sleeper.
