Woodland House Hotel

It’s a grand sandstone that was clearly once striking & successful. The bed linen, towels & bathroom were spotless. Kettle & tea/coffee/chocolate lovely touch. Bottled water in bathroom a bonus. Staff were friendly & helpful. Fresh decaf coffee was a godsend. Rooms were cleaned & refreshed even though only a two night stay which was nice. The garden & grounds are a nice and I bet have once been spectacular

The ugly metal framed unfinished extension looks at total odds and gives the property a gloomy feel. Like an unfinished multi story car park attached to an old mansion. The hotel & furniture are very tired. The food smell as soon as you enter, a mixture of cabbage & curry was off putting. The kitchen and bar doors open onto the lobby creating a strange focal point. The smell & corridors have the feel of a care home. There’s a large fish in a small aquarium that adds to the sad feeling. No plain yoghurt to have with fruit either day, but honey & fruit yoghurt available . Porridge very salty- and made from girders. Needs investment so totally understand challenges in the current climate

Beautiful hotel, breakfast was very nice, staff very warm,welcoming and friendly, bed was huge and shower is amazing!

Lovly place only thing missing is a bin in room?

The location is excellent. Close to Dumfries. Lovely lawns..also the secret wood is great for dog walks. We had lovely weather and so enjoyed an early evening aperitif outside in the gardens which was very pleasant.

Breakfast til 10 not 9. Bathroom very stylish but design flaw - tap too high over sink causing big splashes.
