Woodland House Hotel

Very friendly, down to earth hosts - very welcoming. Food (dinner and breakfast) amazing. Good "home cooked" restaurant food, not pretentious, wholesome, good prices and lots of it!

Lovely twin room for me and my daughter, comfortable beds, quiet surroundings, my daughter especially liked the hot chocolate that was available. It was spacious for the two of us, clean and a hot shower. The staff were lovely, asking us how we were doing and seemed interested in why we were down in Dumfries. They were also a bit upset that I hadn't taken my dog to visit. Maybe next time.

The only downside was when I booked the hotel through booking.com. I had asked if I could take my dog as there was no option to advised that I would be bringing a pet with me hence, why I sent a message. Because I didn't hear back I did not want to face being refused a stay with her so did not take her. When I mentioned this to them when I arrived they apologised for not getting a response.

The room was huge compared to modern chain hotels. The staff were friendly and helpful.

The rainforest shower didn't have a good water flow, it was too diffuse and ended up soaking the bathroom floor but missing me.

It was a lovely stay and nice and peaceful. The food was lovely and well priced. Nice grounds for dog walking too.

Would have been nice to just have relaxing music on in the dining room and not the radio. We accidentally turned on the towel rail and didn't realise so were very warm overnight. Perhaps a label for this would be good.

Our room was very comfortable with excellent amenities. The breakfast and evening meal were excellent, with plenty of choice on offer; excellent home-cooked food.

Everything was done well! From reception at arrival, excellent meals with prompt service, friendly and helpful staff, spacious quiet grounds, plenty of convenient car parking. The piper was a bonus!

We felt there was nothing to add, it is far too easy and silly to make ‘didn’t like’ complaints. The whole point of being away from home is to be somewhere ‘different’…. embrace it! Nowhere is perfect but being good enough is great.

Great food, great staff.
