Elder York Guest House

I only stayed one short night, but would recommend it for a longer stay too... Perfect location, easy access, comfortable rooms and great breakfast!

Murray is very kind, offers great local recommendations, and prepares delicious breakfasts. The location is also excellent, very close to several points of interest. 100% recommended!

Great location

We were on the top floor. So glad that Murray was there to assist us & carried our bags up the stairs.

We stayed two nights at the beginning of our trip and two nights at the end. Murray, our host, was very attentive and accommodating. He awaited our arrival when our flight was delayed by many hours, and made sure to point out the many things we could see and do. The location was perfect allowing us to walk everywhere we wanted to see. We were a 35 minute tram ride from the airport followed by a five minute walk. We were two blocks away from a Tesco Express and one block away from our favourite coffee shop, “The Square”. There were many options for food and drink nearby. Speaking of food and drink, the breakfasts were exceptional. Lots of choice, but go all in with the traditional full Scottish breakfast. All in all we were very happy with the Elder York Guest House.

My wife and I are experienced travellers and generally know what to expect, so while these were not deterrents to us, they might be to others. Being in an old building, there are a few flights of stairs to get to your accommodation. Also, for the same reason, the rooms are fairly small. But to us, this was not a problem, since we chose to be in the heart of the city. Based on other accommodations in the area, we feel the Elder York offers good value.

Der Empfang mit Murray war sehr freundlich, nett und hilfsbereit - sehr schön. Das Frühstück im "gediegenen" Frühstücksraum wurde von Ihm serviert und das empfand ich als sehr persönlich und nett. Das Zimmer war einerseits etwas klein, wie auch das Bad, aber was soll's - ich bin nur zum Übernachten und Duschen da. Das (typische alte Holz-) Fenster hatten wir hochgeschoben und auf Grund der zentralen Lage gab es damit Geräusche der Autos und Party Gänger - natürlich hätte ich das Fenster auch schließen können. Die Lage ist sehr gut, die Straßenbahn (vom Flughafen) hält in der Nähe, ansonsten ist Alles fußläufig erreichbar. Das Haus ist besonders, da historisch und damit im Treppenhaus und im Empfangsbereich durchaus beengt - ein altes Haus eben mit Einschränkungen, aber auch Charme.

Für ggf. gehbehinderte Menschen ist es auf Grund des Treppenhauses und der engen Räumlichkeiten m.E. nicht zu empfehlen. Dies ist nicht negativ gemeint (siehe oben) sondern nur eine sachliche Feststellung.

Sehr zentrale Lage. Alles in kurzer Gehdistanz zu erreichen. Murray war sehr freundlich und hilfsbereit. Sehr gutes Frühstück.

Murray is een erg goede en vriendelijke gastheer. De locatie is centraal en op loopafstand van old town. Het ontbijt is fantastisch.

De kamer is klein Het bed heeft een vrij harde matras. De douche is klein en verouderd De rolgordijnen zijn vies.
