Really lovely night away on the Yorkshire coast staying at Coal Merchant House. Such a relaxing break made even more so by Linda and her kind, non-intrusive but super friendly hospitality... and very delicious breakfast too :).

"Fantastic B+B. Book it now!"

10.0

What can I say but... FANTASTIC! There is absolutely nothing to fault with this marvellous B&B. Linda is the perfect host, such a lovely, helpful lady. We had a most memorable visit and stay in Whitby. We chose to walk into Whitby each day and leave our car at the B&B. Linda showed us an easier route to walk there. Went to the Abbey (YHA cafe, within the Abbey grounds, is ideal for a quick bite). Whitby is a pretty 'Olde Worlde Towne'. Lots to do and see.   We also enjoyed our visit to Goathland (Aidensfield in TV's Heartbeat). Get there early before the steam train arrives but even then, when there was more people, it was manageable. There are some walks around Goathland, so wear good footwear if you want to do that activity. Unfortunately the pub (Aidensfield Arms) was closed but there is a tea room where the little shops are.

Absolutely nothing!

"Perfect place to stay!"

10.0

Firstly, Linda is a fantastic host, very welcoming, responsive, and helpful. The house is elegant and cosy at the same time. The room I stayed in was perfect, with a very comfortable bed, complimentary hospitality tray, and a spacious en-suite showerroom with complimentary toiletries. Breakfast also had a vegan "full English breakfast," which was perfect, as well as muesli, cerals, fresh fruit, orange juice, and excellent coffee from a local roasting company. Another bonus was that the Coal Merchant's House offered free parking. The property is about 1.9 miles from the harbour, but Linda suggested a shortcut, so it was a pleasant 20 minutes' walk into town. It was very convenient to be able to walk into town as parking can be expensive. Despite having an injured knee, I was able to walk into town, climb the 199 steps, and visit the Abbey and Church. In short, this is a perfect place to stay.

"Everything you would want."

10.0

Lovely welcome, and attention to detail to make our stay really comfortable. Superb cooked breakfast with local sausages and bacon from the butcher down the road. Helpful local knowledge. A good base to visit local sites, and close enough to walk into Whitby which is otherwise hard to park. An EV charger available to use was an added bonus.
