Masakali Retreat

This was the best place to stay that we have ever booked! From the organization, the breakfast, the staff, the villa/pool, the view - everything was amazing. Ira was especially great. She was our main point of contact. She helped us arrange pickup/dropoff from the airport, scooter rental (even for a day that we weren't even staying here), was there to give tips/recommendations, and help with whatever you could possibly need. Freya, the cat, also paid us a visit, which we loved. The location is also perfect. We were close enough to Ubud to go for dinner/shopping, but far enough away to avoid the traffic/noise.

The only thing that I could think of that was less than perfect, was the privacy. We would be in the pool or lounging around and someone would come by often to sweep up leaves etc. I would prefer a more private entrance/maybe a gate? Again, this is me trying to find something.

The place is truly beautiful, and the staff were incredibly kind and attentive, accommodating all our requests. It's a wonderful place to visit.

The only downside is the food quality, which needs improvement to enhance the overall experience.

The service was impeccable, the room and pool was cleaned every day and we were able to wash our laundry. We were able to enjoy our holiday thanks to the kindness of Ira and his team, thank you again.

The pool is awesome 😊 we stayed in Chandra villa. Water was available, which is great. The sit out area is lovely ❤. The hammock was great in the day. Good facilities to cook your own meals, with a fridge. Very beautiful at day time. Good for people who love to stay secluded. There was a good music speaker in the room. A good place but they need to make a lot of things better.

We had stayed in 7 properties in Bali and I was so excited about this villa compared to other places we booked in Bali but it sadly did not live up to our expectations. It was our honeymoon and incidentally my birthday and it did not feel special at all. The access to the villa is very difficult, even with a 2 Wheeler. You are literally riding over a gutter to reach your room. Cars need to be parked outside on the road and you need to take a good 5 min walk to your property. The staff was friendly at the beginning, but they were not considerate about a 30 min late check out which was very disappointing as we were unwell. Ira was like we will come and clean your room at 11 am, that's it. Breakfast was terrible, they literally just serve you one piece of bread, fruit juice was bad, we asked for orange and got a frothy glass of pineapple juice instead. Ira was not as accommodating as described in the prior reviews we read. The place was great, but there is no air conditioning and TV. TV and AC for such a price they charge for the room should be a given. Located in the insides of Ubud, very far from the centre, a good 45 mins bike ride from the villa to the centre. Make sure you are brave to face insects and creatures around at all times, I guess it comes with the location the villa is at, but for sure it can be better managed. The only blessing was Umah Bali Warung nearby, which served awesome food. There is no restaurant in the villa you stayed in, you could order food but considering the breakfast experience we gave it a pass and preferred Umah Bali Warung, which to be honest were the best meals we had throughout our stay at Bali. I would give Masakali a pass the next time as there are much better options to stay in and around Ubud for sure.

Masakali is a beautiful and pristine villa in a breathtaking tropical jungle, conveniently close to Ubud, yet also far from the hustle and bustle to feel other-worldly. The bed was very comfortable, the staff were all friendly and responsive , and the pool offered an amazing view overlooking rice patties and lush vegetation. We look forward to returning the next time we are in Bali! 🙏❤️

This is a beautiful villa situated about 25min drive from Ubud away from noise . We loved the peaceful surroundings and staff were extremely supportive and friendly.. Amenities are comfortable and we also loved our new adopted Ubud pet Friya and we consider her as family and looking forward to coming back again to see her. The scenery is breathtaking and the villa is cleaned daily. The drivers Masakali organised for us were very friendly and supportive and that made a difference to our overall experience. We highly recommend this villa.

This was a fantastic stay. The surrounding nature and quietness was much to our liking. The staff was immensely friendly and helpful and well organized. The contact via messenger service was comfortable and efficient. The cooked food was always extremely good. Every dish was a real delight. But the best thing of our stay, which made it simply amazing was Kantu the Driver. He showed us the best spots of a wonderful Bali and gave great support for all our wishes. His driving was really excellent and relaxing and his car was most comfortable. Best driver in Bali 10 out of 10, like family away from home.

The villa we had was a little bit dark inside missing any larger windows but the stay at the terrace and pool was making up for that.

Accessing the hotel at night would be the only thing.

It was a beautiful beautiful place, was like a dream escape, so serene, staff were so so sweet and friendly, it's a little interior but it was actually very comfortable, no complaints much at all they provide for everything. We had a wonderful time.
