Kariappa House

Beautiful understated heritage property with interesting antiques, ceramics and a carefully maintained lush garden area. Swimming in the lap pool was a magical experience with tropical plants bordering it and very easy to book a slot. I also enjoyed the plentiful breakfast - delicious croissants, fruit with yoghurt and dosas. It is a peaceful place to stay and the staff were very helpful and friendly.

Everything was perfect but if we were to quibble the bath towels were heavily perfumed and a strange texture. I can’t think of anything else.

Our stay at Kariappa house was truly incredible, we stayed in the JS suite for 4 nights which is a private suite, the hotel offers a simple but very enjoyable breakfast with the option of hiring the pool in 1 hour slots. The hotel is a short walk or tuk tuk drive away from central Pondicherry and the promenade. The staff are very welcoming and nothing is too much trouble for them.

We loved the hotel for it's oasis like calm and beautiful environment. The pool was a huge bonus, we loved having exclusive use and being able to swim each day at a time of our choosing. The room was lovely, and the staff were extremely helpful in arranging transport when we wanted to go out for dinner in the evenings.

Everything! Beautiful amazing property, at a central location. U can walk to the White Town, the promenade…walk by the fishing village n land at promenade or the white town. The manager Mukesh is a man for all seasons. He arranges for ur commute, gives suggestions for places to eat and also arranged flowers when I needed them. Ram ji was very caring and Vanaja who runs the kitchen doesn’t let u get up from the table serving u hot dosas or chicken curry. Cassie and Jasmine were the most adorable cuties on the campus. My last day was spent totally on the property. It was a lovely stay

Eine ruhige „Insel“ in der lauten Stadt, gepflegtes historisches Ensemble inmitten eines grünen Gartens, stilvoll eingerichtete Zimmer, einladender Swimmingpool, bemühter Service.

Das Anwesen liegt in einer ruhigen, aber dunklen Seitenstraße (mit Auto schlecht zu erreichen), im Umkreis von rd. 1,2 km gibt weder ein Café noch ein Restaurant. Bis zu einem Tuk-Tuk-Stand läuft man eine Weile. Nach der Vorab-Bezahlung erhält man eine 6-seitige Info über die geltenden Verhaltensregeln, von Wechseln der Schuhe am Eingang in bereitgestellte Flip-Flops bis zur Reservierung einer Nutzungszeit des Swimmingpools (jedes ‚Zimmer‘ hat ein Anrecht auf eine Stunde). Es gibt kein Restaurant, man kann ein kleineres Dinner bis um 10.00 Uhr morgens für den Abend vorbestellen. Am Anreisetag gibt es also nichts zum Abendessen! Unser Zimmer hatte zwar ein Fenster, aber mit Blick auf eine Mauer, es blieb daher auch tagsüber dunkel. Um 4:30 Uhr begann der Muezzin mit seinem lauten (und langen) „Weckruf“, um 6:30 Uhr begann die Küche (unter uns) mit lautem Getöse. Aber da das Bett hart war, blieb sowieso kaum an Schlaf zu denken.

Kariappa House is gorgeous, most stylish place stayed at in our 3weeks in India. The staff were exceptional and food was too. Also had useable TV (has TV lounge) so I watched 1st TV in3 weeks! Unfortunately we needed twin beds and only twin room was the room next to the noisy road. Rest of bedrooms are in part of building away from street with a big spacious courtyard in-between so no noise issue. Also the twin beds were, for me, uncomfortable/so hard. Staff did go out of their way and offer us alternative rooms with incredible comfy double beds and away from street, they just weren’t suitable for us. So this is a perfect place for a couple/single or people who can share beds with friends.

Absolutely charming! We loved our stay at Kariappa House. The rooms were truly beautiful—tastefully decorated, spacious, and full of character, with wonderfully hot showers. The common areas were equally charming, and strolling around the quiet backstreets felt wonderfully authentic. Nestled near the sea, the location has a lovely village feel yet is still close enough to walk to White Town. We had initially worried about potential temple noise, but we didn’t hear anything. The staff went above and beyond, and Mr. Ramzy was especially delightful. We really appreciated all the information in the welcome package. Being away from the hustle and bustle in central Pondicherry made for a wonderfully relaxing weekend of touring, resting, and enjoying great food. Kariappa House’s beautiful garden and pool were perfect for retreating after a day of exploring. We will certainly be back!

Pool: We found the booking system a bit restrictive. It might work better to have free swim hours for quick dips, rather than fixed slots like 8–10 AM and 4–6 PM. Serious lane swimmers could still book dedicated times, but the pool is long enough for people to share or negotiate one-on-one. For those of us who just want a short swim before the day starts or after touring, it would feel much more convenient to hop in without needing to reserve a full hour. Breakfast: we love an unhurried breakfast. A gentle reminder to the staff to allow a slower pace.
