We had an amazing stay! It was very affordable compared to other hotels in Kyoto, and it was a nice experience to stay in a Japanese home. The location is convenient to reach stations and there are many affordable restaurants nearby. Higashi was so friendly, he gave us a warm welcome (together with Maru the cat) and we had a little talk about the places we have visited in Kyoto and he also gave us some tips. He even offered to take our two large suitcases up the stairs to our room upon arrival. Maru was adorable, and we could even give him a snack! We arrived quite late and Higashi recommended an amazing ramen place within walking distance that was delicious and super affordable. We even went back for a second time. The room was very spacious and the beds were super comfortable. The temperature and pressure of the shower is great. Higashi was very responsive throughout our stay and super helpful. We asked for extra bath towels and he left it for us the same day. On our last day, he even helped us call the reception of our next hotel to communicate in Japanese regarding sending our luggage. This really saved us a lot of stress, and he gave tips on how to send it via Yamato. I would definitely recommend staying here!

Building is a bit older, so sometimes the floors would squeak when we walked but nothing major

It's location is good as I can walk from train station easily. The room is clean and comfortable. The staff is very helpful.

The washroom was noisy when other guest use it during nights

Easy to find, close to the train station, the owner was nice and helpful, gave good recommendations about the area like what to see or where to eat within walking distance. The cat is also a very nice host!

Walking distance to Kyoto Station in quiet safe residential neighbourhood. Free laundry and rooftop terrace for drying clothes. Umekoji Park, Aquarium, combinis & restaurants close by. included toiletries & (limp) towel set. Comfy mattress and pillow.

This place is screaming for an update, a little TLC and serious deep cleaning. Squeaky floors, dust everywhere especially along floor walls and corners; heavy reliance on incense burning and air fresheners all day to mask odours. If you have respiratory issues or allergies to dust and strong chemical fragrance, this place may not be comfortable for you. Also, if you have heavy large suitcases, mobility and balance issues, or poor vision, the steep, narrow steps on awkward staircase pose a tripping hazard though hand rails are present. Even though quiet signs for after 10 pm are posted — If there are noisy boisterous boarders, you’ll be able to hear them across hallways or between floors. Something to consider if you’re counting on rest on the eve of a travel day.

On of the best hosts I’ve ever had in my life!

I enjoyed the privacy from having my own room and being able to lock my door. I also loved using the washer and dryer. It made it so convenient for me to wear my clothes and not worry about them being wet by air drying. It's so rare to have a dryer I was surprised . Hisashi san was so kind as well and meeting maru chan the cutie cat made me feel happy and not make me miss my cat as much. What a good pet owner too by not letting maru stay over when people were visiting! I was worried someone might accidentally let him outside but was glad to see he went home with Hisashi san :) The location was great too and the bus stop was very close and convenient to everything I planned.

It got so cold at night I wasn't prepared for Kyoto weather but thankfully I had two heated blankets!
