Seagreen Guesthouse - Galle Fort

Great location, rooftop bar with view of sunset on sea. Friendly and helpful owners

The room was above the restaurant’s kitchen and dish washing area which caused a lot of noise as the bed was under the window and the clanking of the dishes and cutlery disturbed our sleep. We reached the guesthouse at 1pm and we had a long journey instead of accommodating us right away they made us wait an hour as the according to them the check in time was 2pm. Usually the check out time is 12pm in all most all hotels, theirs were 10pm.

I didn’t like that their sheets weren’t white and neither were their towels. Which makes me think if they have any stains or the sheets/towels were dirty. We didn’t use the towels.

Extremely comfortable bed and room was large and cool. Staff were very helpful and friendly. Breakfast was FANTASTIC.

Great location with roof top bar for view over the ramparts of the sunset. Very quiet. Very good food at reasonable prices. Friendly staff.

Bathroom could do with modernising but okay at this price. The owner is planning an upgrade.

The room was very comfortable and the views from the rooftop were amazing. There was another level with a lounge and a view as well.

Very good location in the Old Fort. Roof terrace was a lovely place for a drink and to unwind and meet other travellers. Huge and comfortable bed. Good value for Galle. If it hadn't been for the problems (below), which may be completely untypical, we would have been very happy with this booking. However ...

On the first night, the night staff and other locals were walking through the corridors talking loudly. Then they began playing music in the downstairs restaurant. Things did quieten down after my husband went and asked them to be quiet (possibly not that politely, it was 1.30am) but our sleep was limited. We didn't want to get the member of staff into trouble so we said nothing next morning which was probably our mistake. On the second evening there was a downpour and when we returned to our room it smelt very badly of sewage. There was a prompt attempt to address this which was partially successful. But at least we thought we'd get a night's sleep before a 6am start ... only to be kept awake by a very distressed dog which had presumably been left alone downstairs in the building who yelped and howled until I assume the nightwatchman returned in the early hours. Again, very little sleep.
