Himana Beach Rest

Good location, few mts from the ocean

The property is right on the beach. The owner/host, Indika, speaks good English, is friendly and helpful. The bedroom a/c works as does the fan. Clean bed linen & towel were provided. Indika supplied filtered water in bottles.

There was nobody to meet me when I arrived, I waited for about 30 mins in 30 degree heat. I had sent a message via booking.com to no avail (I have a data only sim, so phone calls). Eventually & reluctantly I interrupted a canoodling couple, I got the disgruntled boyfriend to make call to the supplied number, a sleepy voice answered and I made my presence known, I was assured someone would be on their way. This was mildly irritating as I had made the booking months earlier. The delay on check-in did allow me to inspect the small external spaces, there was a small mountain of discarded plastic water bottles and building rubble in the small garden. The building rubble was cleared during my stay, the empty water bottles remained. After my call Indika did turn up, without an apology, and appeared to have no idea how long I was staying as he proffered "one night"? Unfortunately, I had made the mistake of booking six nights. It turns out "1 night" was other guests most common length of stay. The entire property is a bit of a shambles, shared areas & private accommodation (see photos). I was shown my bedroom and a small shared area to make tea/coffee, a table to sit and eat any brought in food. There appears to be no formal kitchen. The biggest suprise was that there was significant building work going on to support the roof above the 2nd floor of the building which appeared to be missing a part of an external wall, thus open to the elements (see photos). The fridge on the ground floor was never on, so no chance to store cool drinks or food brought home. There is no hot water in the bathrooms. There is no room service. The bathroom shelves and surfaces were grubby, the glass sliding doors were frosted with dry salt water spray. It appeared that no attempt to clean anything had been made prior to my arrival. No wardrobe, hangars or hooks in the bedroom only a clothes rack. There is no washing machine.

Great stay, Indika and his brother are very friendly and warmhearted hosts. Calm and peaceful environment.

Quiet beach side accommodation with no street dogs, loud traffic. Just the restful sound of the Indian ocean.
