We have stayed at The Jet Black Jewel once before and it exceeded our expectations, so we couldn't wait to stay again, for our weekend away in Whitby. We stayed in the Saint Hilda's suite, which is on the top floor, which is a trek, but it's well worth the stunning views as you settle in. The deco is beautiful and the bed is so comfy. The location to the centre is amazing and a lovely walk past lots of quirky independent shops. The cafe/bar downstairs is weird and wonderful with all it's quirky decor. Staff are very friendly and cannot do enough for you. A parking permit is provided, which is a good send in Whitby.

There wasn't anything to dislike, love staying here.

Jet Black Jewel is in the perfect location, and it has a quirky style that reflects the quirky nature of Whitby itself. There’s clearly a lot of love that’s gone into the property, it was spotlessly clean, the staff were extremely helpful and friendly and the view was incredible. Special mention goes to the bathroom in the St Hilda suite which was beautifully tiled and the facilities were top notch. The food downstairs was tasty and fresh, it clearly wasn’t something that was sat under a heat lamp waiting to go and it’s clearly very popular.

The price of the St Hilda suite for our stay was just over £420 for three nights, which given the view, the facilities and location of the property we thought was extremely reasonably, however although JBJ markets itself as a Bed and Breakfast, this is somewhat of a misleading label. The accommodation side of the business feels modelled upon the Air BNB style of tourist accommodation, with your largely left to your own devices (which suited us) however it’s a shame that no form of discount is offered to you as a guest of the hotel when you’re in the cafe downstairs. We totalled that with breakfast our stay cost around £50 more bringing the total cost of our stay closer to the £500 mark, which we still feel is affordable for what was on offer. It was frustrating to see that as a business marketing itself as a B&B this was actually not the case. The only other grumble we had was that the bed could have been a little comfier with the pillows feeling more akin to bricks at times than pillows. All in all though we would stay at JBJ again and would still recommend it to others
