Chelle's Guesthouse and Backpackers

I appreciate having a female dormitory as a solo female traveller. It was also clean (comparing to the usual dormitories that i've checked in). Staff was kind and accomodating. Peaceful and away from the party noise. Strong wifi. I'll book here again when i comeback.

The property is quite spacious with plenty of parking for my motorbike. The room was bigger than expected and was located in the quieter part too which was good. The room is a mix of native and modern which complements the nice island vibe, and has all the amenities I required for the duration of the trip. The owner Chelle was very friendly and quite welcoming despite a slightly delayed arrival, as was Melissa who assisted me with the booking and showing me to the room. The bed was comfortable, and the comfort room/bathroom was fine, hot water was working great especially after a long trip and after driving around the island. The location is ideal and walking distance to nearby restaurants and other services in the area. The restaurant for this property was also a highlight with decent pricing and the best food I’ve had throughout my time in Siquijor with great service and plenty of food for the price.

Local network signals with both Smart and Globe are quite bad and at times nonexistent in this area, having to rely on Wifi which was a bit congested with so many guests connected to the one access point all at the same time. The room did seem a tad dated but only a minor nitpick. Can be a little noisy on weekends with a nearby establishment playing loud disco or techno music until the early morning hours.

Location is good.

It was dirty, there were many bugs (ants and spiders) in the top bunk beds cause some of them were near a window. In the female dorm there was no water for showers, the ac wasn't properly working. One of the staff members entered the dorm at 1am turning all lights and checking the beds saying she was making sure there was not somebody else or males in the dorm. Overall if there's another place available, choose a different one.
