Lake Front Yala Safari

If you are looking to do the Yala Safari, this is the place to be! The accommodation is very clean, right by the big lake. We did the safari through our hosts and also did one cooking class which we really enjoyed!! (Food was sooo good). They also help with everything you need! Can only recommend

The room was very spacious, clean and well presented. We felt it offered very good value for money. We thought the dinners were excellent. The owner who drove us on safari went the extra mile to make sure we had an excellent experience.

The host and his family were super kind! Location is amazing by the lake. The room was very clean and comfortable. We also did a safari tour and our host went above and beyond for us. We saw many animals and had a blast. We loved our stay with them!

The room was nice and spacious, providing a comfortable stay. The family running the hotel was very welcoming and kind. A big plus was the location—it was close to the safari, making it a convenient choice for visitors. If you're planning a safari, it might be a good idea to check with the hotel about arrangements and compare prices. Since we only spent a few hours there, it's hard to say more, but our short experience was positive!

The main issue we encountered was that the heating system for the shower water didn’t work, which was a bit uncomfortable.

Honestly, it was our worst stay in Sri Lanka. To start, we didn't feel the usual welcoming and hospitality we felt in our other stays in Sri Lanka. We were asked if we had booked a safari (which we did because we didn't know the offer safaris), and the host told us that we need to do the check out at 11:00. When we asked her if we could leave our bag in the common area until we return, she said no. Luckily, our driver didn't mind passing at 11:00 and putting the bag in the car. Also, there wasn't hot water, and we saw stains on the towels and bed sheets. Lots of mosquitos and no mosquito net. The bed was very wide, and my feet were touching the bottom part (I'm not THAT tall). All together, I don't recommend this place. If you plan on spending one night (arrive in the evening) and leave after your safari the next day, go for it cause it's overall cheaper than other places.

- No hairdryer - No hot shower (but it was okay except for the initial shock as the days in Kataragama are hot) - Cleanliness was not consistent - the clothes rack had a layer of dust on it and we cleaned it ourselves before using the rack - Limited power plugs - Many mosquitoes and insects in the room but this seems to be typical in Kataragama from other travellers we chatted with. The mosquitoes didn’t bother us, but a net for the bed might be good - It was a little hard to communicate with the couple but their daughter spoke better English, so sometimes we asked her to join in the discussions. The lady of the house seemed a little impatient (not smiling and arms akimbo) when we were deliberating whether to go with them for the safari, but she was smiley when she passed us a plate of bananas from their garden at night. The man of the house switched off our electricity from the outside when we were still inside (he thought we had left the room), we thought he could have knocked and checked first if we were still in the room - Drilling works on our outside wall at 9+ am on the day we slept in - perhaps the drilling works could have been done when we were out or after we had checked out

Host is very kind and welcoming. She gave us tea on arrival and bananas from her own garden which tasted amazing. Immaculatley clean room and bathroom. Room is very big and spacious Also had drying racks which was very handy, also had drying racks which was very handy. Very good air conditioning in room. Organised our safari ar Yala National Park before arrival. Great value for money. Would highy recommend.

Location is a little away from everything. But we had our tuk tuk so it was not a problem for us to drive to resturaunt for dinner.

The family that run the place are so lovely, they really made our stay! Beautiful spacious room with AC, great breakfast, and a stunning garden with monkeys! We booked a safari through them and it was absolutely incredible. The guide has an incredible eye for wildlife and we saw loads! Highly recommend for a place in Kataragama.

Only cold shower but it was so hot we were okay with it. Also lots of mosquitoes and there wasn't a mess over the ventilation in the bathroom where they seemed to be coming in. A net over the bed would have fixed that
