Yakushima Park Guesthouse

Phenomenal location with convenient access to restaurants, grocery stores, rental services, and Shiratani Unsuikyo. The owner was a very helpful guide and provided lots of good advice and guidance around the island. The Guesthouse atmosphere was relaxed and also made for easy and enjoyable connections between guests.

We enjoyed our stay here. It's simple and clean. Really appreciate the owner tried his best to help us by using google translate. The blanket is really comfortable and we have very good rest. Bus stop is just at the opposite of the guesthouse and there are few restaurants nearby.

Owner was very helpful, accommodating, and communicative, knew little English but used Google translate to bridge the gap. Room and facilities were clean and comfortable shared toilet and shower (not bathhouse style). air conditioning was very effective to keep room cool in middle of summer, and owner will turn it on while you are out so you can come back to a cool room!

It's a short walk from the ferry port, if that's how you're getting there. However there's a bus stop right outfront that leads to and from the airport. I've attached a photo the bus timetable (as of May 2023) out the front, as I found it difficult to find information on public transport in Yakushima in advance. There is a nice outdoors rental store just 200m away where I rented hiking gear from. I've also attached a photo of their english rental form for anyone curious. I can't garauntee they will have stuff in stock though in the tourist season. There's a couple of nice restaurants in the town, but they can quickly fill up during tourist season. You may want to book a table if you can.

The house was a little creaky, so it was easy for guests to create noise. There isn't many rooms for too many guests though. There was only one shower, so you may have to wait if someone else is using it. Also unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any convenience stores in town, and the restaurants get busy in tourist season. You may want to pack some snacks to bring with you.
