"My Japanese nan has a dope ski chalet"

6.0

Location and cost are amazing. I even snagged a last minute booking for an impromptu ski trip to Nozawa Onsen. The house is near the bottom of the travelater so not much walking to get to the slopes! And the main drag is just down the hill tens of meters. Eat, drink and be merry. My bed was comfy (I was too warm, in fact!) and my room was cozy with a small but effective space heater and a kotatsu. The old lady who runs the joint is some mystical force of nature. She’s good humoured and does quite well with her English. She seems to crop up with various discounts to ski rentals and onsens!

Just have your expectations in order. This is like staying at grandma’s house, complete with calendars and maps from bygone decades. It’s a fairly basic old place, with a shared toilet and wash basin. To bathe, you’re going to an onsen. If you’re good with that, you’ll have a cheap and cheerful place. If you need mod cons, look elsewhere, or go back to your Vale owned resort. Nozawa is a unique gem.

Very unusual place with absolutely lovely lady hosting. Very cheap for location & was somewhere to sleep

Finding it wasn't easy as there is no good signage outside but trust in the description & Google maps. The bedroom door would not shut and very cold in corridor.

"Authentic Japanese minshuku accommodation with great location"

9.0

Authentic Japanese minshuku with excellent location close to the escalator leading to Hakube gondola and also to several Onsen and the main shopping street. The owner is a lovely old lady - just be careful about the shoes and slipper rules. Ski and boot storage in the basement . Breakfast was beautiful, Japanese style and very tasty

Toilet is downstairs bedrooms are upstairs but it’s beautifully clean and warm so no real hardship

Lovely host, great location. Very basic room and facilities but this is countered by the low price and the excellent location.

"Perfect, comfortable accomodation"

10.0

Miyasakaya is a small boutique accomodation. It was clean and comfortable for my 1 night stay. Easy walk from bus drop off and town. Delicious breakfast, very traditional. It is a share bathroom with no shower, you shower at the Onsen.

It is affordable and the location is great

The facility is old and worn, shared bathroom did not have hot water in the tap. It was somewhat messy, so it is hard to tell if it was clean or not.

"Stellar location, exceeding all expectations"

9.0

You need to understand what you're getting; this is minshuku, not a full service ryokan. (but you'd be forgiven if you didn't realise!) The owner is lovely, extremely accommodating, and really exceeds her duty to her guests! Classic Japanese hospitality, which is becoming exceedingly rare, especially in the Australian enclave resorts! The house is old, but has been well maintained and recently renovated; all facilities are in excellent working order. The location is unbeatable, and I think it's safe to say she undercharges for her rooms.

Nothing, it was perfect for our stay and exceeded our expectations.
