Koyasan Shukubo Yochiin

This was a truly incredible and unforgettable experience. From our first step into the quiet courtyard, the welcome snack, the tea ceremony, the onsen, the beautiful rock garden outside our window...and that was just the first hour. The diversity of nationalities that were respectfully participating in this intimate holy experience helped me regain faith in humanity. We also took the optional tour of the cemetery, led by one of the monks, and a heavy thunder and lightning rainstorm cracked open as we were in the cemetery after sunset. I felt like I touched the face of god.

It was super clean and comfortable. The hosts are very nice and accommodating, and they taught us about Buddhism, the temple, and Koyasan. The place offers activities such as an evening guided walking tour of the Okunoin and the opportunity to observe and participate in the morning chanting. It was an over very immersive and informative experience to stay at the temple. Would highly recommend.

Außergewöhnliche Erfahrung in einem Tempel zu schlafen und bei der Morgenzeremonie teilzunehmen. Das Zimmer war sehr geräumig und sauber. Onsen ebenso. Es gab eine Teezeremonie, bei der man teilnehmen konnte, sowie eine Meditation nach dem Frühstück. Personal und Mönche waren sehr freundlich, hilfsbereit und informieren über sehr viele Dinge.

Le prix Koya-san est c'est très touristique et nous n'avons pas trouvé le "dépaysement spirituel" escompté dans la visite des sites et du village.

In fairness the place was exactly as advertised, however the overall experience was not worth the money we paid for it.

No tour of the facility, no explanation of what/why/where, until just before breakfast, after which we had to check out. Welcome wasn't as friendly as expected, we felt a bit like intruders.
